Reflections for Police Officer Michael Horan
"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Today we honor and remember Police Officer M. Horan a dedicated and brave individual who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. As we reflect on his life and service. Let's remind ourselves of the profound impact he had on his community, his colleagues and his loved ones. As I am a retired deputy myself, I know that law enforcement officers are protecters, mentors and friends. Just the way he is being talked about, I can see that Officer Horan approached his job with courage, integrity and an undeniable sense of duty. His legacy is one of compassion, understanding and a relentless pursuit of justice. I acknowledge the loss by his family and friends. The void left by his absence will be immeasurable, but please take solace in knowing that his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he's touched and loved. Let us carry the torch lit by Police Officer M. Horan, let us be inspired by his bravery and selflessness. let's commit to always serving others with the same dedication he exemplified. We will not only honor his memory but also ensure that his legacy endures. My heart goes out to the Family, Friends and Colleagues. I will Pray for you all. Officer Horan, a police officer should be remembered not by how he died but by how he lived! A brave man has left to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you for your military and 7 years of commitment to law enforcement, your family, and the Greensboro Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace, Brother!

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.
I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.
