As an individual living abroad, not a U.S. citizen, this tragic event once again highlights how essential police officers are in ensuring the safety of the community. I send my best wishes to the officer who was injured during the incident and my condolences to the family of the officer who lost their life. I hope justice will be served for the person who was arrested, and I believe that those responsible should face the harshest consequences. I also aspire to become a sheriff in the future, and such events only strengthen my determination to serve the community. I want to work even harder for the safety of the public.

I hope that the half wit murderer takes his last breath in solidarity confinement. We must send a strong message. If you don’t comply to lawful orders, it’ll be a bad day for you. We also need to get it into their heads that the place to dispute the legality of an officers actions are NOT on the side of the road, but rather in the court of law. May justice be served to the fullest extent. I don’t want the murderer to ever step foot outside of a prison again. Rest in peace to the officer, and praying for the quick recovery of the other. I’m rarely one to quickly take the side of officers, but this man’s actions made me sick. I hope our youth learns a valuable lesson. You shoot at a cop, outside of extraordinary circumstances, and you can expect to lose your right to life, or at the very least freedom, forever.

Honestly I'm very shocked. I just watched a video on the "Police Activity" channel and I see how both officers are hit by a guy's bullets. What makes me feel saddest is seeing how Officer McCowan falls to the ground and his partner does not help him. I see that she puts on a tourniquet but does not help her partner, and it gives me a very great feeling of anguish to see that no one helps the officer, no one took off his bulletproof vest, no one cut his clothes to look for wounds, they just leave him lying there and at the end of the video there is no explanation of what happened later, I had to search on Google and came across the unpleasant news that the officer has been killed in the line of duty in the line of duty. My respects and admiration from Chile, from a private security guard and former soldier of the Chilean Air Force.

Rest in peace my brother. I often think about you and that night. You will never be forgotten. Greg was a true hero and a great man. I had the honor to graduate with Greg in 2020 at the Blount County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy class 021. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Greg’s family who have lost a wonderful human being. Until we meet again my dearest brother.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

We know from the Holy Scriptures that Peace Officers have a sacred task to enforce the laws of the land to protect the innocent and punish the guilty:
"For the policeman [Peace Officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him [her]. So, if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [Peace Officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [she] will have you punished. He [She] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should." [Romans 13: 3-5 TLB]

Please consider changing it from “he succumbed to his injuries.” To “He Bravely died in the line of duty.”
As he didn’t die because failed which is the definition of succumbed. There was nothing he could to avoid dying from the fatal shot.
