Another brave police officer loses his life in the line of duty. He leaves behind not just his family but an entire community that is in mourning. The suspect is not back behind bars as of yet but in the hospital where he is being held. The individual who shot the officer will find himself once again behind bars possibly for the rest of his life without seeing the chance of parole.

What a tragedy. But not one that did not serve a purpose. The family of Officer Daryl Pierson will remember him as a man who "stood in the gap". May that memory comfort you in the years to come.
