Reflections for Police Officer Gary Jonathan Buro

TO FAMILY/FRIENDS/CO-WORKERS

Blessed are they who give
without expecting even thanks in return,
for they shall be abundantly rewarded.

Blessed are they who translate
every good thing they know into action,
for ever higher truths shall be revealed unto them.

Blessed are they who do God's will
without asking to see results,
for great shall be their recompense.

Blessed are they who love and trust their fellow beings,
for they shall reach the good in people and
receive a loving response.

Blessed are they who have seen reality, for they know
that not the garment of clay but that which activates
the garment of clay is real and indestructible.

Blessed are they who see the change we call death
as a liberation from the limitation of this earth-life,
for they shall rejoice with their loved ones
who make the glorious transition.

Blessed are they who after dedicating their lives
and thereby receiving a blessing, have the courage and faith
to surmount the difficulties of the path ahead,
for they shall receive a second blessing.

Blessed are they who advance toward the spiritual path
without the selfish motive of seeking inner peace,
for they shall find it.

Blessed are they who instead of trying to
batter down the gates of the kingdom of heaven
approach them humbly and lovingly and purified,
for they shall pass right through.

Officer Buro,

May you rest in peace tonight after many years of faithful and dedicated service. You are a true hero, who will be missed by many and forgotten by none.

What do I think of when I hear your name? I think of a man who was an awesome Marine, outstanding cop, and even a better friend. A man who served his country with dedication during Desert Storm and later served the citizens of Lantana, New York City, and later Chesterfield County with that same dedication. It was an honor to serve with you for three years in the Marine Corps and continue to be your friend after we both had gotten discharged. You were an inspiration to me and many others with your "laid back" personality and your ability to always, no matter what, to have a smile. All who knew you are in pain right now but that will soon fade away in time. Just remember this Gary, my brother, you will NEVER EVER be forgotten. Love you Bro.

Gary - though I never got the chance to meet you I was devastated when I heard the news of your passing. Even though your passing is a huge loss to the dept, it is an even bigger gain to Heaven. I am a girlfriend of a Police Officer, and I now hug him tighter when he leaves for work. Please watch over your brothers down here and help keep them safe. God bless your family and co-workers.

Gary: thanks for being such a wonderful friend to my brother, as well as being an excellent police officer wherever you served. Reading over the reflections, I can see how many lives you touched in 34 years: More than many people do with much more time on this earth. You are a true role model and hero.

My family will miss your smile and sense of humor very much. I was looking forward to seeing you build a happy life in VA, and I still can't believe that I'm typing this message to you. My condolences to your family and your coworkers.

Officer Buro, I salute you for your dedicated service to law enforcement. Keep watch over your loved ones and help them with their grief. I ask that the Chesterfield County PD stay close to your family, including your parents and support them as there is no greater loss than to lose a child, no matter how old that child may be. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

To the parents, sister, and brother of Officer Gary J. Buro:

Although I have never met your loved one, I know him to be a very special person - dedicating his life for the betterment and protection of others. I was at one time a police officer in the state of Connecticut where I live and know the commitment and caring that makes an officer special. I believe that your son/brother was such a special officer. And, I can only pray that God gives you the strength and courage to bear the pain of his loss. My son is a Chesterfield police officer and he has spoken highly of Gary and his many admirable qualities. No one can know the depth of your family’s pain - but we know of your love, and extend our family’s hearts in prayerful support and loving friendship to you and yours during this heart-breaking time.

With sincerest sympathy and respect,

Charlotte DeBoer and family

Gary,

I met you briefly and learned that you served at the same time I did in the Persian Gulf War. You served with great dedication and a sense of duty and honor. You mapped out a plan for your future and were making it happen. You have touched many folks with your zest for life, sense of humor and positive upright, drive on attitude. You had the courage to go where most would not dare. As a warrior on the thin blue line - you selflessly laid down your life to protect the lives of others - there is nothing greater than this. Gary fly with the angels - I will never forget you.
My prayers will always be with you, Kathy and your family.

LORD I HAVE OFTEN LIVED ROUGH,
TO SURVIVE THE STREETS THEY ARE TOUGH.
I CALLED ON YOU WHEN I WAS HURT THAT NIGHT
WHEN I ANSWERED A CALL...TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE WAS ALRIGHT.
I HAVE LOST MY HEAVENLY BODY AND YOU NOW HAVE MY SOUL,
TO SERVE MY COMMUNITY MY LIFE WAS THE TOLL.
LORD HOLD MY HAND AS I ASCEND TO HEAVEN
I AM GLAD MY SOUL HAD BEEN FORGIVEN
I PROTECTED THE WEAK AND THE INNOCENT
MY FEELINGS NOT PERSONAL, MY ATTITUDE RESILIENT
ALL MY LIFE I HAVE ASKED, "WHO IS HERE TO COMFORT ME?"
BUT I REALIZED THAT COMFORT WAS ALWAYS GOD YOU SEE!
AND NOW TO THE PEOPLE THAT CRIED IN THE RAIN,
DON'T CRY MY LIFE WAS NOT LIVED IN VAIN
MY FAMILY, MY FRIENDS, MY LOVE WAS MY ENDEAVOUR
I AM WITH MY FATHER, THE LORD FOREVER.

To the Family and Friends of Officer Gary Buro,

Though we never met, I went into line-up last night and people that knew and worked with Gary, were telling their wonderful stories about him. I sat and listened to great things and wished I could have had the pleasure of working with him. For his service, we are forever greatful. May he watch over us from the clouds above!
