Reflections for Trooper Andrew J. "AJ" Sperr
Outstanding job, God bless you for staying in the fight. Without saying, your actions brought these cowards to justice. That shows your will power and training. Rest well my brother. We'll take it from here.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper Sperr. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading all the reflections left for AJ, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember AJ's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that AJ's life was about so much more than the way he died. AJ will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Trooper Sperr, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

Andy- tomorrow your family will be presented with the Brummer Award on your behalf. The highest honor of all. We have not forgotten your sacrifice on that day in March and never will. We have had the honor to go down to Horseheads and meet your fellow co-workers. They are such a great bunch of people and thought the world of you! You would be so proud of them all. We are helping them with your Memorial Park and it will be a great place when it is all finished, the place where you performed your last act of heroism. Rest in Peace Trooper Sperr. You will NEVER be forgotten!

Godspeed to you on your journey. Your returning fire and wounding of these cowards shows the rest of us to never give up and defend ourselves at all costs. Your actions on that day are a testament of a hero and an indomitable spirit. Very, very impressive.

To the parents, brothers, and sisters of Tpr. Sperr I offer my sincere condolences. I lost my own Tpr. brother many years ago and it is still a painful memory that our family carries. I know that you will be lifted up by the many who support and pray for you and your loved one because of this web site and the common bond we share. May God's perpetual light shine upon the soul of Tpr. Sperr and may he rest in His eternal peace. God grant you all the graces you will need as you cope with your grief at this most difficult and sad time. Your loved one was a hero and he will not be forgotten for his ultimate sacrifice. God bless him and his family.

This is to the Officer and his family. I have lost two friends and almost a third Officer serving a warrant. I will hope and pray for you all in this time of loss. We never get over the loss of a loved one but we learn to keep going in their memory and honor. My wife and I recently lost our son Ryan 10-27-2005 and I was severely injured in the line of duty. I am still struggling to get back to full duties but when I see that a fellow Brother Officer is lost it makes me want to get back in the job to help keep all of the innocents safe just trying to injoy life. I hope that everyone that knew Trooper Andrew will get up everyday and remeber the good times and things he did and not of the day he left us. This is what I do everyday in the memory of my son Ryan. Sometimes that is the only way that I can get up and face another day without him. Love and prayers Joe & Deb Saunier.

Trooper Sperr you are truly a hero. You loved your job and died doing what you excelled at and loved. May you rest in peace, you will be greatly missed. Never forgotten.
To his family, friends, co-workers and loved ones...What an honor you had to know and love him. Although I didn't know him personally, after his death I learned of what an amazing person he was. My family and I pray for you all. Let your memories surround you and help you through this difficult time.

You are a true HERO it's because of brave officers like you who allowed us to catch the "crooks"...I almost lost my life on 8/09/03 I was shot 7 times, but stayed alive to investigate my own shooting. POLICEMARKSMAN Magazine "Officer Down" January 2006 edition.

Our thoughts and prayers go with your family, and the wonderful Troopers of the NYSP. It was my privilege to work together with the NYSP Troopers in New Orleans after Katrina. Andy- They say out of darkness, comes light, and out of tragedy comes hope. Although we are all still mourning your death, we are reminded of the miracle of a new life. Yesterday, many of us from your second family, the State Police Family, met your newest nephew. Your youngest sister Katie, gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy on March 7th, a day after you were laid to rest. Your nephew will carry on your name, Andrew Joseph, "A.J.". They say he has big shoes to fill and he definitely looks like the Sperr side of the family! Someday, he will be told what a wonderful guy his Uncle was and the sacrifice that you made that day in order to protect innocent civilians and possibly your colleagues from being hurt. We will all do our best to look out for your family, because on that day in March, they became part of ours. Rest in Peace Trooper Sperr.

Trooper Sperr represents the best of all police officers, in not only giving his life, but in returning fire even while dying, so that his return fire would further protect the public by either causing the wounded shooter and accomplice to fall at the scene or, as happened here, forcing them to seek medical attention, which in turn resulted in apprehension. Without the Trooper's deathbed bravery, the shooter and his accomplices might still be free to kill again
