Dad: I wish I would have been able to get to know you better. Mom says I remind her of you. Says she can't put it into words but says they're all good things. You never met them but you have 5 grand daughters and a grandson. I pull out your record and read the note you wrote me often. I'll come visit the momorial someday soon. Darin.

Wow it has been a long time buddy, where has the time gone.
I don't think of your death much, I do think of the good times we had and the late night phone calls at 0200 - 0400 when you had a questions that could not wait until morning.
You were a good Deputy Ed.
Thanks for the friendship buddy.

It’s been over six years and it still seems like yesterday we were talking and having a good time. The department has grown and changed is many ways. Your wife is such a strong lady and I know she missing you too. She and I laugh all the time about the things we did at the academy and all the other times we had together with you. We dedicated a new Law Enforcement Memorial at the Utah State Capital this year, what a delight it was to be part of that for you. You were and are still a good friend and I know you help protect us all. We will see you later.

Ed,
I have great memories of the white horn. His stories when he was in the Navy(missles of October) His love of Great Danes and fast cars.
His great singing voice. He was a talented entertainer. I had heard he was in law enforcement and I was looking forward to reconnect, but my search sadly brings me here. Eddie god called you home for a reason. You will be missed by all for now until later man.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Its hard to believe it has been 5 years and one Star. I can still remember the day as if it were just yesterday. I was just starting my dispatch career. I can still see your face walking into the lobby at the office making a face at us in the early morning hours and coming in to ask us if we wanted some donuts. I will never forget those great times my friend. May you watch over all of us always. Thanks Ed, rest easy my friend.

Ed,
It seems like just yesterday that I attended your funeral. I'm glad I had the chance to meet you, have a Coke, and shoot the bull every now and then with you at the New Harmony exit store. I miss working in Washington Co. and southern Utah, mainly because of the great people I met and worked with while there, you being one of them.

Ed,
I did not know you too well but often think of you. I never believed I would see a fellow officer die in the line of duty. Being one of the first officers on scene will forever be imprinted on my mind. I will never forget you or your willingness to help another officer from a neighboring agency. Thank you for trying to help that morning. Working for CCPD gave us the opportunity to meet from time to time. Most of the time you backed us up without being dispatched. You were always sincere and honest. God bless you Ed - rest in peace.

"Special Ed"
Talked to your wife the other day, strictly business, funny, how can somebody go through this hell together and not talk about it? nobody seemed to want to rip the bandage off. It is an anniversary of sorts today, 3 years since that terrible day. In a way, time stopped for both of us. The nightmares aren't as frequent now and "they" say it's time to "let it go" I am trying. I will never forget you, nor will I ever stop wondering.......what if?

Special Ed;
Not a day passes that I don't think of you. I drive past "the spot" most days. Not many nights go by without "the
nightmare" I will always wonder what I could have done to change it. Nobody but you and me know how it really affected us. I am sorry my brother.
