Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Edward Norman Dare
Ed,
I am so thankful and I feel truly blessed that I was given the opportunity to know you. I can't tell you how many times your shadow in Mark's doorway brightened his day. Your shining personality and genuine smile were as big if not bigger than your stature, and you always impressed me with the way you truly loved and respected your wife Cindy. You are an example to us all.
Iron County has lost one of it's most elite citizens and protectors. But as for those of us who knew him, we have lost a dear friend. We miss you Ed.

"We call that person who has lost his father,
an orphan;
and a widower that man who
has lost a wife.
But that man who has known the immense
unhappiness of losing a friend,
by what name do we call him?
Here every language is silent and holds its peace
in impotence."
-Joseph Roux
We miss you, Ed.

As an officer from a neighboring agency it has been my pleasure to work with officer Ed Dare. Many times I have looked over my shoulder to see Ed, after requesting back up. I always knew Ed was there to watch out for me. I have also witnessed many children talk with Ed and saw how quickly and freely they spoke with him. Indeed Deputy Dare was a true hero to these children. The citizens of Iron County can never repay Ed for his great service. All we can do is say Thank You Ed. We will miss you.

Ed,
I'm so grateful that you stood by us at the ICSO get-together last week. It was fun to have dinner by you. My little Skyler looked up to you so much. (But then, I guess everybody did -- after all you were pretty dang tall!). I loved so much to see you with your delightful wife, Cindy. I want to thank you for the way you seemed to love her and have fun just being in her presence. I know Doug will miss you and I feel warmed by the brotherhood I'm seeing in our organization, in our town, in our country today. Everybody expresses it differently . . . all of us feel it and hurts.
God bless you and those who loved you.

I check this website almost daily and with sadness I read the story of another hero loosing his or her life. God has a special place in his heaven for police officers, for they truly are the children of God. Rest in Peace.

May god bless your Family and Department. Thank you for your sacrifice and your service to the State of Utah, and Iron County. I did not know you, but you are a brother, and I will not forget you. It takes good honest people to be in the Law Enforcement profession and from what I have heard about you, you excelled in your duties. Your life was taken in the service of others, we owe you a debt that can never be paid.
