Reflections for Police Officer Julie Rochelle Jacks
To Julie's mom (and family) -
I attended the service for Julie fourteen years ago. That was a day that truly changed my life and my dedication to our profession. That change was based entirely on the inspiration that I received from knowing such an incredibly courageous individual. Many years may have passed since that tragic day, but her memory is continues to live on and serve as motivation and encouragement for us to to serve our community to the best of our ability. I have always wanted to meet you in person and let you know just how much her life has influenced me personally, my career, and an entire generation of officers that knew and respected her. I hope that you have some peace knowing what she has meant to all of us and continues to mean.

Thank you for all you did. The fact that you moved me, just a random person halfway across the world 13 years after your watch ended, is truly proof of your heroism. Thank you.

I am glad to know that people like you and other CPD officers are willing to put their lives on the line while everyone does not have the courage to. I will apply to The CPD soon and you will be on my mind if I get in or not. Thank you for your great leadership and I was affected by the sad news of your calling home even though I was a young boy. I have always wanted to be an officer, and I can't explain how much respect I have for officers, especially ones like you. May you continue to rest in peace as we all will celebrate your going home (EOW) on tomorrow, May 6, 2014!

I'm struck by the wording "End of Watch". It really drives home the fact that our service people are always on watch, looking for ways to help and giving of themselves in ways "civilians" often either can't or simply won't appreciate.
Thank you for your sacrifice, Officer Jacks. May you rest in peace.

To Julie's mother and family,
Typed words seem so useless here. Lives like that of your daughter, and the love in your words that's literally brought me to tears...they are inspirations to live the best life I can. I'm 26 years old this year. Thank you for allowing me to know about such an amazing person.

To Officer Julie Jacks -
Thank you for your service, your dedication, and your courage. Years may pass, but you aren't forgotten. A legacy like yours is lasting.
To Julie's mom -
I wanted to let you know that my family and I are praying for you. Your daughter was a beautiful human being in the truest sense of the word, and she is still changing lives, even the lives of complete strangers from other places in the world. I know you are incredibly proud of her; you have every right to be. And I have complete faith that you will see her again.

Our lives go on without you
But nothing is the same
We have to hide our heartache
When someone speaks your name
Sad are the hearts that love you
Silent are the tears that fall
Living life without you
Is the hardest part of all
You did so many things for us
Your heart was kind and true
and when we needed someone
We could always count on you
The special years will not return
When we are all together
But with your love in our hearts
You walk with us forever.
We love you

Julie, you are on my mind today. I spoke of you today, as I often do. I told a co-worker about some of the things you girls did. There are so many things that remind me of you (and Misty, Sheree and Jessica). Special, special, special. You are always going to be in my heart.

On a recent trip to Chattanooga I traveled on Officer Jack's
Memorial Highway. I googled her name and found this memorial page and after reading the reflections left by others, it is apparent Officer Jacks was an outstanding officer and an extraordinary person. The fact she was awarded Rookie of the year speaks volumes as to the professional caliber of officer she was. My condolences to her family, friends and co-workers. May she Rest in Peace.
