My name is Rick Morrison I was working that day assigned to the second precinct.Working Hicksville car.When the call came over officer shot I responded to the Long Island Expressway near Route 110.waiting for notification of vehicle.Which never came.The shooter had probably already had passed on his way to NYC.

Like Richard had been, I was a grey-uniformed police cadet, and assigned to the 8th precinct and then 8th squad detectives as the squad cadet. Although I didn't know Richard, I'm sure we passed each other in the hallways many times. I recall seeing one tough detective who was also a Korean war veteran with tears in his eyes. Like a family, we were all heartbroken and devastated. Whenever I hear the tragic news of a law enforcement officer losing their life in the line of duty, I remember Richard and his sacrifice. Rest in peace brother, you are loved.

Richie was a member of my bowling team back in 1971. The last time I saw him was the day before he was killed. I told him I had switched a tour for the next day to bowl. It could have been me assigned to RMP 810 that night, but Richie got the call. We all heard about the shooting and Richie's death at the bowling alley that night (Wednesday, December 29th, 1971). It was just horrible. We were all so young and felt indestructible. A few weeks later, we re-named the eighth pct. bowling league the Richard Rose Memorial League in his honor. We set up a yearly donation by the league of $500 for the Richard Rose Scholarship Fund. We still donate $500 each year to the scholarship fund. Just this year, the fund was transferred by Charlie Meade to the PBA to keep it running perpetually. Even though there are only a couple of us left in the league who knew Richie, we still miss him and honor him every year. God bless him and his family. Bob Thomas (retired P.O., Eight PCT PDCN)

It will be 51 years in a couple of weeks. My heart is still broken. Miss him always and his fiancé Jan. Both so good to me. He would have been a great husband and great father but Gladman took that away from him. I hope he’s burning in hell. Gladman died of cancer years ago. Should have electrocuted him. I salute you Richard and all the men and women in blue. Forever loved forever missed

I also remember the night Richie was killed. I had a holiday party at my house with thre other PO when the news came over. Richie was driving car 810 which happened to be my car also. Very heart broken… Richie was so young and so loved by all his brothers. RIP never forgotten. Retired PO John Hanshe.

I remember that night I was working the second precinct. When the call came over Via radio I responded to route 110 and waited for a description of shooters. But they had fled to NYC. I had only two years on the job. But that set me back on my heals. Will never forget that night. Rick Morrison

The night that Officer Rose was killed will always be in the memory of us all. Every time I pass by that location, it brings me back to that evening. There were several new classes of officers during that time that had just started working on the streets. This horrible incident will always be a reminder of how a precious life can be taken so quickly from us. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Officer Rose. He will never be forgotten.

We haven't forgotten Richie even after 50 years. Richie Rose was on my bowling team, at that time called the eighth oct. league. We actually found out about his death at the bowling alley that night. Nit long after we re- named the league Richard Rose Memorial Bowling League and started donating each year to the Richard Rose Scholarship fund. We still do this today.

I was very young when this happened, but I remember that Richie was a really cool guy and would play with us, his younger cousins, when we went to visit his family. His whole family were just wonderful people. I miss them all. Thank you, to all of you who keep Richie in your thoughts and prayers. May his courage and ultimate sacrifice for his community never be forgotten.

I remember Richie well. Before becoming a PO, he was a gray uniformed police cadet and worked at HQ in administration in Mineola, NY at the same time I worked in the Nassau Highway Patrol Bureau also at HQ. A fine and brave young officer who always did his best........ RIP Brother!
