Reflections for Detention Officer Carl Abdul-Malik
God of Justice, I am grateful for the lives and sacrifices of all America’s Peace Officers. They died serving us. Help us never forget. Help us celebrate their lives and honor their sacrifices. Be with the families of these fallen peace officers. Comfort them and give them Your strength and peace. Guide us as we seek to take care of the families of these fallen heroes. May we care for them with integrity. In commemorating the deaths of these fallen heroes, help us also to remember that death is not the end. Death does not have the final say, but is simply the transition from this earthly life to the heavenly life yet to come. This assurance was guaranteed to all believers upon the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. We look forward to that life to come with joy and anticipation. Thank You, Lord God, for hearing this prayer. In the mighty and holy name of Christ Jesus, Your dear Son, I pray. Amen.

Today is Carl's Born Day. He is still loved and missed by his family. But oh what a beautiful legacy he has. Three children and Four grandchildren now. Carl Abdul-Malik will be forever remembered as a gentle soul with a phenomenally blessed spirit.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 20th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both their pain and pride are forever.

Just wanted to say thank you for the blessings to Carl's Family. We are still telling his story and exemplifying his legacy. His children were 2, 5, and 10 at the time of his death. He would be proud of all three, the oldest is married and has two degrees, and is now having our second grandson, our son is currently serving our country in the army, and our youngest is at Howard University studying Jazz Vocals. His parents and sister are still very much a part of our lives, but they have since, loss their two other sons.

I remember as a Senior Officer being told of the story of Officer Carl Abdul-Malik by former Juvenile Detention Officers and his constant commitment to juvenile residents at the facility and how he dedicated his life for a job that requires patience and duty commitment. I've since left the Burlington County facility but his story had a lasting impression on my spiritual and professional abilities and during this Christmas I would like to send out a prayer in his name for his familiy and Merry X-Mas.

On the Day of Carl's transition, I called the telephoned company to say that I was suppose to pay my electric bill, could I please postpone, because my husband had just been killed. The operator on the other end asked "Was your husband's name Carl Abdul-Malik?" I said "Yes." She said, "He was the only officer at the juvenile detention center that really took care of my son. He read to him, talked to him and gave him books. I said, "That sounds just like Carl. We use to have two Quran's, but one of them is gone." She asked, "Is it a green book?". I responed, "Yes!" She said, "He gave it to my son!" This speaks volumes about the person that Carl Abdul-Malik was and illuminates his ascension. He truly was an extordinary man. He was 33 1/3 when he passed on from this life, born to Lee and Mitzie Baldwin in Roosevelt, NY. Devout husband and father of three.
