Reflections for Detective Rodney Scott Morgan

Not sure what brought me to this page today. Scotty was my first cousin on his fathers side, (Ralph Morgan). I was 10 or so years younger than Scotty but I do remember when he, Uncle Ralph and Aunt Sue came to Illinois for Thanksgiving at Ralphs parents house in Cuba Illinois. All the female cousin crowded around Scotty. Here was a tall Texas boy visiting family in the north. They followed him around like a puppy. Though he was 11 years older, he treated us younger kids with a mutual respect. We all looked up to him in awe. I moved to Houston in 1983. My family went to vised my Uncle at his home. He played his old Spanish box guitar for my 3 year old son. He played a song that he use to play to Scotty. I saw his eyes swell up in remembrance of his son as he played. Scotty was truly the love of my Uncle life. RIP Scotty and Uncle Ralph. You two are together again playing songs again on that old Spanish box guitar.

Scotty,
I think back on our teenage years and us camping out on the weekends when you, Aunt Sue and Uncle Ralph would come up to Bellville to visit Mawmaw, Pawpaw, Aunt Faye and Uncle Buddy.
Then summer vacation we'd spend a full week in the woods catching and eating fish, crawdads, bullfrogs, and squirrels.
Then during the two week Christmas break, we'd add swamp rabbits, ducks, and geese to that list. Gotta admit, we ate pretty good in the woods....Lotta protein.
Of course, most of this was before we got out driver licenses and cars. Some of our interests changed after that.
Then I joined the Marines at the start of 1966. The next, and last, time we saw each other was when I came home on leave in 1972. I reported in to base in California and mid 1973 went back overseas. Not long after I was sent a newspaper clipping telling of your being shot and killed. After reading that, many memories went through my head of our good times together. But one memory ended up a premonition come true....and that was your Mom, Aunt Sue, always telling us "don't take your guns in the woods. One day one of you boys is going to get hurt by a gun". She was right in the end, only one of us got hurt....and in a bar years later....not in the woods.
I sent your info to our oldest grandson that is a policeman here in Texas. He loves his job.
Rest in eternal peace. Scotty.

Thank u for honoring and remembering my father. So sad to me because as time goes fewer people write about what a great officer he was. Because friends and family are dying off and people won't even know who he is. It's so depressing. But you Will always have a place in my heart Dad. I would also love to meet my Stepsister if you read this.

Hello Dad,
Even though I never got to meet you because your life was cut short due to evil and corrupt people on the police force where you worked you will always have a place in my heart. Mom says I remind her of you. Always smiling, laughing and a great sense of humor we share all of those characteristics. I know you're so proud as you protect me from a above. Mom said you always said how you wanted a baby girl. Well that's me!. Gosh, I wish I could have had a father like all my friends going up. But guess what? Mom learned how to be tough. I don't know where but she had to play both roles and I must admit she did a great job. Sometimes she tells me that she did a better job because you would be too lenient .Lol..

DearScotty;
I loved you with all my heart. Your Parents and I were in contact for many years after the loss of you. You were the finest man I had ever known and although our plans never got to be realized and dreams never got to come true, you have remained in my thoughts all of these years,
Your Grave is within a few feet of my Granddaddy's Grave and the Watkins Family Plot at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, where many of my relatives are now resting.
I'm sure that your Dear Mother,Sue, is now in Heaven with you. I know I will see both of you one day. I wish I had gotten to say "Goodbye"; but I know you knew the words I would have said.
With love always, Suzanne

I had to repost since I left an inaccurate eow day. Today is the 38th anniversary year of your in line of duty death.
Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and you will always be honored and revered. Your valor can nve ve understated. I hope that the officer who accidentally shot you was able to find some measure of emotional healing for this tragic incident tore apart many lives, I am sure.

I was so sorry to read of your father's death but all of us surviving parents think at some time or another that we are only one breath away from our beloved child. He no longer could find peace on this earth and had to join you.
Rest In Peace.

We knew Scotty for about one year before he was killed. He was an only child and loved dearly by his father who never got over losing his only son. Scotty's dad did not want him to join the Sheriff's Department and words were sometimes exchanged, but this was something Scotty wanted to do. Scotty loved his job.

Some weeks, months, after Scotty had been buried, we couldn't find his dad. A family friend found him at the cemetery, lying on Scotty's grave. I know that his dad has joined Scotty in heaven.

I am sorry he died this way and I'm also sorry for the officer who shot him because they poor man must have been ridden with guilt for years and probably still. I hope he has found peace in his heart.

You died in a gallant effort to save your partner from being killed and you paid the price. If its one thing we all know when we sign on for this job is that one day we may have to lay down our life for our fellow mand or most of all our partners.

May you rest in peace my brother God has another good officer patrolling heaven

Det. Morgan, thank you for your service and dedication. You put your life on the line and paid the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Texas. It saddens me to see that your own Department has apparently forgotten the sacrifice you and your family made.

Rest in peace Detective.

As my career's end is coming closer, I decided to check and find those who had lost their lives during the year that I was hired. While it's been a long time since your passing, I'm sure those you left behind and those whom with you served with distinction have kept you alive in their memories. Thank you for your service and for looking out for us who continue in our chosen profession. Rest in peace Detective Morgan!
