Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Michael W. Burson, Sr.

Heavenly Father, You are Compassionate and Merciful. None of America’s Peace Officers leave home without the fear of not returning at the end of their watch. It is a fear that is lived daily. Unfortunately, the worst does sometimes come to pass, and lives are left shattered. Lord God, bless and keep the hearts and souls of those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Wipe away the tears from their eyes. Soothe their pain and bind up their emotional wounds through the wounds of Your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In His name, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

Please find Encouragement, Comfort, Support, and Hope from God's Word:

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
[Matthew 5:9 ESV];

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." [Psalm 23:4 ESV];

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
[John 15:13 ESV];

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." [Matthew 5:4 ESV];

"And he [Jesus] said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." [Luke 23:43 ESV], and;

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." [John 3:16 ESV].

Can’t believe it’s been so many years since that horrible day. Lost two awesome Police Officers from a situation That started with a training exercise a swat officer falling out of a helicopter and injuring his leg and then passing away. From that you are doing the motorcycle leapfrog road blocking during the procession and somebody didn’t see you and hit you. Such a sad incident that could’ve been avoided and you missed every day. Very friendly and professional motors officer and may you be resting in our Lords arms comfortably while you wait for the rest of your brothers and sisters to join you. God bless you, my friend

I remember when you passed, I was working that day. And I remember they had a city park named after you. But where did it go. Today I stopped by the shiny new OPD HQ on OBT and found a memorial dedicated to you in the OPD lobby. A motorcycle #1209 and a sign from the city park are in the lobby. I wish they would add a picture of your serious mustache game you had going. Smooth roads and beautiful sunsets to you Officer Burson. Thanks for being a guardian of Orlando.

Mike , came by and saw you yesterday ( 11/1/2023 ) as I try to when I come to Orlando. It is hard to accept you are not among us retired OPD. When your name comes up. The comments are always the same about your big smile and the big mustache. Our circle grows smaller each year. I am sure you welcome them.

Officer Burson would come into my office, a couple times a week, and ask me if he could read the Sport pages of our local newspaper. I would always say yes, of course! After a few times, I told him it was okay to just take the sports section with him! This began a daily ritual of him picking up HIS part of the paper, always with a smile or a wave.

After all of these years; when I see a random newspaper sports section sitting alone on a table, I will always smile in remembrance of Officer Burson.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanjks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Michael was a good friend and fellow officer. He was always very positive and fun to be around. He took his job seriously and was very fair in dealing with the public. It was a sad day when I found out he had passed, he will be missed.

Michael was one of the good officers serving on the Orlando Police Department. He always had a smile on his face. He went above and beyond the call of duty. Mike really enjoyed his work as an OPD motor officer. He looked forward to going to work every day. He was one of the finest and is really missed.

I remember the day you died. It was a shock. I was used to seeing all the motorcycle officers when they came to the rear parts room for wax. I liked you. You were friendly and caused no problems. I have often thought of you and your family
