Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

Les,
The first and only time I met you was exactly 32 years ago today in the predawn hours of the op briefing that consisted of multi groups. I know this sounds odd, but I've never forgotten you boots.
I was assigned to the Harris County Organized Crime Narcotics Task Force and your team was helping us hit a multi building compound of a known offender.
Your team hit the building the offender was in.
When it happened, the Houston FD paramedic from the box that had staged for our op, ran up to us as we were trying to tend to you taking your gear off. It was still dark outside and we were having to use flashlights. The paramedic ran up to us, looked at you and screamed at us to grab you, we gotta go cause we can't wait on the box to get to us. We all grabbed you and started running with you to meet the box. I was at the end, I had you by your boots. We got to the box and practically threw ourselves with you into the back. The last I could see of you was your boots.
I never saw you again until the your service.
Les, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for all the tomorrows you gave up that morning, for everything you've missed out on, your wife your kid, your family and friends. For everything they've missed not having you with them. I'm sorry I could not, that we could not have done more for you that morning.
Les, I really didn't even know you, but there's not a day that doesn't go by that I see a pair of work boots, that I don't think about you.
Work boots haunt me. Your memory has been with me every day for the past 32 years. I just wanted you to know that. I want you to know that I haven't forgotten you brother, and I never will.
I know my words are empty, but I'm just so sorry.
May God Bless you, and your family for the sacrifices that all of you have given. I'm so sorry.

I attended the last Basic Swat class you, Bobby Baines, Ken Welch and Tommy Kitchens instructed before your death. I didn't complete that class but graduated from an HPD Basic Swat class the day you were killed. After major knee surgery I retook the Basic Swat class at Pasadena with Sgt. Devillier, Mike Huffman and Candelari (RIP Brother). Sgt. Devillier asked if I had anything to say and I spoke about how tough the class was that I didn't graduate but how you walked up to me during inspection one morning and patted me on the back and said "I'm glad to see you here today". I put on my "In Memory' shirt and I told the class I did this class for you. I understand your son now works for Pasadena PD. I'd be honored to meet him someday.

Les, just letting you know you are sooo missed.
I think of you often. I was instructing a basic Patrol Rifle Class recently and as I looked upon the young faces sitting before me I thought of you and how you were always so eager to learn and how bad you wanted to pass on all the lessons you received.

Les,
We were friends from Middle school to High School, played football and started our careers together in 1985. I counted you as my friend, a good man, A great husband to Patricia and great father to Ian. All these years later I remember that fateful day when our community lost you, Patricia and Ian were deprived of such a good man. I often think of our shift parties and many conversations, especially our work together just the day before we lost you.
I honor you today by remembering you for how you lived, served the community and what a great cop you were and always will be. Les you were then, are now and will always be a great example of what a Police Officer should be !!!

As we prepare for our 30 year class reunion, I pulled out some old pictures to scan and post on the class website and to be in the slide show. You are in several of my pictures and it makes me remember our friendship. We will miss you but know that we will remember you and talk about you with one another. Tears that dried will be revisited but laughter will also abound because you were, above all, our funny friend who kept us laughing all those high school years! We love you.

I wish I could have known him since we may share some relatives. I retired in 2000 after 20 yrs of Police service in Dublin, Ohio. I know he loved his job it is easy to see it on his face. His Brothers and Sisters in Blue will never forget him. God Bless!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 17th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

There are so many loving reflections left for you. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Les,

I have a copy of the video played at your benefit. The video shows pictues of you growing up, pictures of your wedding and videos of you Patricia and Ian. There is also footage of your funeral and other officers talking about their remembrances of you.

I show the video to each of my D.A.R.E. classes at the end of the program to show them that if there were no drug users, there would be no drug dealers and you would still bve alive today. I have shown the video close to a hundred times now and hopefully, the students see what you meant to us while you were here.

I tell them that you are the only person who I have had the pleasure of seeing graduate from high school, honored to be a guest at your wedding and the sad duty of attending your funeral.

We miss you and as long as I am on this earth, you will never be forgotten.
