Reflections for Police Officer Daniel J. Faulkner

Officer Faulkner was killed the year before I was born, yet his name and story still have been etched in my mind. Seeing footage of his killer's supporters on the news the last few years has really sickened me. I'll never understand how people can not even care about how police are willing to give their lives for them, and all too often do just that. When I am an offficer one day, I will be proud to have the honor of having the profession Officer Faulkner gave his life for. God bless his family and the Philadelphia PD, they've suffered so many losses.

Dear officer Faulkner,
I have a dark confession to make. I used to be involved in the punk rock movement. I used to hate cops. I used to burn the flag. I used to wear a shirt in support of your killer.
In tear now... all I can say is that I am so sorry. I was a stupid little kid. Thank God I grew out of it. I can only pray that others do too. Officer Faulkner, so many good men and women die every year in the persuit of justice you dedicated yourself to... that I plan to dedicate myself to... But I feel personally responsible for the guilt involved in having supported a man who MURDERED you just because it was the cool thing to do. It is for this reason that plan to have your badge # as my next tatoo. I am so so
so very sorry. i can hardly see through my tears as I write this message for you. I feel so bad for having never supported you. Please Please forgive me.
Love and Respect,
Richard Butler
