Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
They say all good things must end. But, a good name and a little dignity, integrity and honesty last forever. You carried these on your badge and uniform, Officer Cook, as you were laid to rest along with bravery and the courage to battle with boldness this adversary, an enemy too enormous to battle by oneself. Dade County had and still witnesses its share of violence, your tenacity, Officer Cook, made all difference in us being safe and secure. Terror must be torn apart just as much as turmoil which can do the same amount of damage. You stayed calm and utilized your training that terrible day when the words gallantry, wisdom and conviction were given a heavenly meaning. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Consolations over your loss, Officer Cook and compliments paid everyday to a valiant hero of the highest form of honesty and humbleness. You greeted Dade County and its folks with a hello, a wave and smile, yet your confidence to resolve and fight wickedness never wavered. Good character and morals are catchy, too bad Mr. Pearsall who took your young life and career did not adhere to this very same principles. We cherished and admired your zest and zeal to seal off adversity and by your unselfish humility was tranquility bestowed along with goodwill on mankind. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Loss of life does not destroy the love one who gives and sacrifices for the common cause. It's a bonding process that can occupy many years and yet that hole never really can be filled. Your loss, Officer Cook, as tragic as it was helped to bring together those folks who truly desired peace and its stabilizing harmony. The faith and ferocity brought hope as did your reverence, integrity and dignity for a demanding task. So much to absorb. Little time to think and to react. That day you did your utmost to restore calm and humility to a scene gone haywire by a heinous individual's dislike for authority. Your blessed name is etched on walls and in our thoughts, hearts, minds, your family, fellow peers of perseverance and friends from afar. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Unity is one instrument. And that is to bring one and all together even in times of crisis and strife. You see the real honest people and those just going through the motions. Dignity, desire and integrity when protecting life and property are not agents by which you go through the motions. Ordinary individuals have these same characteristics just as all humble and loyal public servants must. You possessed superior capabilities, Officer Cook, sheltering Dade County and its folks from terror by maintaining calm even in a stressful situation.
