Certain situations require unusual solutions. That sad day of May 16, 1979, at around 2:10 pm you were patrolling the Liberty city area in Dade County, Officer Cook. You and your partner that day, Reserve Officer Scott Lincoln were a block away and not dispatched to the scene and yet you responded, Officer Cook, as you would have to any call sent out. Your honor, dignity and integrity settled in amid the kayos of gunfire breaking the sounds of silence and serenity. Heroism and humility kicked in high gear as you strove to stop a troubled and disturbed young man from causing more harm. You saved your comrades and civilians who were shot and nearly killed, sacrificing your life, Officer Cook, your guts and gallantry laid on the line for a more peaceful humanity. Never forgotten for a moment and always solemnly saluted as a beacon of goodwill and hope. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A deservedly blessed man and a devoted savior to all mankind. The only glory is that your remarkable soul of resolve and acumen gets to stay soaring higher and higher while you help God protect those who have taken over your watch. Your partner was earning a dollar a year, eight point four cents a month, boy, a pretty brave man too.I know you instructed him to keep his weapon holstered, I think defending his partner of sage wisdom and vision would have been the prudent and right thing to do even if the guns were push and pull to draw them from their holsters. Never want to give the bad guys even a nanosecond to react. You performed in a true heroic and trustworthy manner, Officer Cook, confident and yet very humble.
