I was assigned to the aviation unit on the night Joe was killed. Prior to aviation I had the privilege of working the summer detail in the 100 pct. We had responded to peninsula general that night with the hope of transporting Joe to Manhattan….. but that did not happen. I will never forget the mood that night when I walked in the ER of the the guys that I had worked with in the 100.

God bless you Joe…. And God bless the guys from the 100 pct.

When Joe Alcamo passed away, his wife was full term with their first child. Like cop funerals aren't the worst already. Last night I went to a wedding and I danced with that beautiful child. She is engaged to a mutual friend and is the loveliest and spunkiest lady I have ever met. So proud of her police heritage and how the Survivors of the Shield has treated their family. Stephanie, it was my pleasure to meet you and may your dad always Rest In Peace.

I am the man in the car on Rte 347 who asked you about your survivor of the shield plate. So sad to read about your husband . He was so young. My son was 40 when he passed from injuries at the "Black Sunday " fire in the bronx
in 2005. His name was Joey DiBernardo, he was 40.
God bless you and i hope life has somehow been better for
you since that tragic day.

Officer Alcamo you will never be forgotten. You passed away on a day that was tragic for all New York. One day earlier APO Armando Rosario of the 46th pct was killed, and on this day Capt. James Rodriguez of the HHC Police was also killed in the line of duty, Together you are all bonded as brothers in heaven and the great work that you all three have done will never be forgotten. RIP my brother.

Even though 20 years have passed since Joe went to heaven he is remembered by all who knew him. He was a fine officer, there were NONE better. Those who worked the late tour in Rockaway both in the 100 and 101 became close since there was no one else close by when things became tough. There was a spirit of comradery that prevailed. It didn't matter who needed help, us, housing, transit - we were all blue and that's the way it was and I hope still is today. Joe exemplified that spirit. God bless you Joe, you are in my prayers as are Millie and Stephanie.

Today is twenty years that you made that ultimate sacrifice in the Rockaways. Joe let it be known that you will never ever be alone because Capt. James Rodriguez of the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation Police Department joined you in heaven. In Heaven all Police Officers are together and will always be brothers. You will never be forgotten and may G-d grant peace and serenity to your family and friends.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Rest In Peace.
