Having served 30+ years as a Police Officer in patrol services, I've made more vehicle stops for various violations then I can count. Each stop was made with the due caution required for such contacts. All law enforcement officers know that there is no such thing as a "routine traffic stop", that Monsters do live amongst us, that one might be quietly sitting in the car just stopped, and a simple traffic stop can go sideways in the blink of an eye......Yet the officer moves forward towards the darkness of the unknown. They step into the dark so others stay safe. Its a level of courage few have and fewer recognize or appreciate.
To the family, friends, and PSP family I want to express my deepest condolences for your loss of Tim. During my career I personally experienced the loss of a friend and fellow officer in the line of duty. I don't have the words but I would like to leave you with this.......Tim stopped that car and when facing the darkness, he made a choice to exit the safety of his cruiser and didn't hesitate to move forward........Always Remember His Direction and WHY.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Corporal Timothy O'Connor, Jr. and the extended law enforcement family of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.
I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

Reading about Corporal Timothy O’Connor’s death is a powerful reminder of the dangers that come with everyday police work. He responded to a call about an erratic driver, something officers across the country handle on a regular basis. What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into a tragic loss of life when he was shot as he approached the vehicle.
Corporal O’Connor served with the Pennsylvania State Police for more than 15 years, dedicating a large part of his life to protecting the public. That kind of commitment says a lot about the type of officer and person he was. Every shift he put on the uniform knowing there were risks involved, yet he continued to answer the call to serve his community.
After spending 29 years in law enforcement and responding to many similar erratic driver calls, I know how unpredictable these situations can be. Officers approach vehicles every day not knowing what they may encounter. Corporal O’Connor was simply doing his job and trying to keep others safe when his life was taken.
What makes tragedies like this even harder is remembering the family he leaves behind. His wife, daughter, and mother will carry this loss forever. Corporal O’Connor’s dedication, service, and sacrifice should never be forgotten, and his story is a reminder that no call in this profession is ever truly routine. God Speed, Corporal O’Connor.
