Reflections for Police Officer Eric Estrada

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

It's hard to visit this site. I do so only to honor our brothers and sisters who have laid down their lives in the line of duty. I'm so tired of this list growing. I want to honor Brother Estrada, pray for you, those who served with you and for those who knew and loved you. From the fire service, to our LEO's, NONE of you will ever be forgotten. It is with a heavy heart that I say, thank you all.

Officer Estrada, a police officer, should be remembered not by how he died but by how he lived! A brave man has left to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you for your 8 years of commitment to law enforcement, your family, and the Tremonton-Garland Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace, Brother!

It is so very sad that this and other innocent lives were taken away. It's not only his life, but his whole Earthly future and part of the futures of all of those he would have influenced during his lifetime. May he and his fellow officers rest in the mercy and peace that only God can give. May the good Lord comfort and care for his family. Amen.
