Reflections for Patrolman Andrew William Duarte

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Obviously youthful, your duty to others went well beyond your years. You were obviously a great man. A man who stuck to his principles no matter what the price. I can only hope and pray this offers your loved ones and those whom you served with some soloist.

Officer Duarte, a true hero dedicated to serving and protecting. As fellow Denver patrol officers, I witnessed his unwavering courage, selflessness, and commitment to doing what was right. More than an officer, he was a son and friend, lighting up every room. His sacrifice is immeasurable, but his bravery and kindness will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, brother.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. God speed.

Lord our God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Patrolman Andrew Durante, of the West York Borough PA Police Department, was suddenly and violently taken from us; Shot & Killed in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and comrades by the power and protection of the cross. I ask this through Christ Jesus, our Lord, and by His Holy Name and Authority, I pray. Amen.
