The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

May your family, friends, colleagues, and community find the strength and resolve to carry on in your physical absence and continue to spread the goodness to which you were so selflessly committed. You were among the best humanity has to offer. Your dedication to service and your ultimate sacrifice shall not be forgotten. God Bless You. Your Family, & Friends.

Rest in Peace Trooper Carns, and thank you for your service. My deepest condolences to your family, friends, and my brothers and sisters at ISP. For a family to suffer a loss like this so close to Christmas makes it even more unbearable. I pray they will get the support they need to help them in this most difficult time.

Heavenly Father, You are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Trooper Clay M. Carns of the Illinois State Police, was suddenly and violently taken from us; Struck & Killed by a Motor Vehicle in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and colleagues by the power and protection of the cross. I ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, and by His authority. Amen.
God's Mission for America's Peace Officers:
"For the policeman does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don't want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he will have you punished. He is sent by God for that very purpose." (Romans 13: 3-4 TLB)
God's Word of Support, Comfort, and Hope:
"Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called God's children."
(Matthew 5:9 GW);
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom will I send? Who will go for us?" I said, "Here I am. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8 GW);
"The greatest love you can show is to give your life for your friends."
(John 15:13 GW), and;
"Blessed are those who mourn. They will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4 GW).

My heart breaks for the loss of Trooper Carns in this tragic way. Gratitude in words is not enough for him answering the call to stand between us and danger. Lord be with this Wife, Children, Family, Fellow Officers and Friends in these days to come. God Bless those still walking the very thin Blue Line.
