Reflections for Police Officer Jacob Derbin

Officer Derbin,

This is turning out to be a very tragic Mother's Day weekend. We've had two young law enforcement officers lose their lives in the line of duty. Both of you in your early 20's. I will pray for your parents and family, along with your fiance Liv and her family, along with all your friends, loved ones and colleagues. Rest in peace.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God”. – Matthew 5:9

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation's brave peace officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are already on the brink of exploding with tension over national and worldwide current events. In light of America's Peace Officers who are no longer with us, I pray for patience and endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Lord Jesus, carry us through this time of civil unrest and strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your might and holy Name, and by Your authority, I pray. Amen.

Anytime we lose a hero it makes my heart sink. The fact that this hero was so young and he had his whole life ahead of him makes it even harder to comprehend.

May God bless this hero's family, friends and coworkers. Thank you Officer Derbin for your service and sacrifice. Prayers

Lord, Father, God,
Please dispatch extra Angels to watch over our First Responders.
You Ordained their path before their Mothers were seeds in their GrandMothers. They answered your call to serve you by putting others lives before their own.
Have mercy on the families involved in this tragedy.
