I am a UK citizen who happened upon the circumstances of Officer Hernandez’ cruel and senseless killing on You Tube.
I was so deeply moved to see his humanity when he approached the subject. To him it was a routine job with no idea of the horror that was to come.
I was deeply moved too by his police family and their grief and support for each other.
I just wanted to express to the Las Cruces Police family and all Police Officers my admiration and thanks for your service and your courage. The threats you face every day are greater than those faced by police officers in the UK, but police everywhere put their lives on the line each day and I thank all of you.
To Officer Hernandez’ wife, sons and wider family, your loss is unspeakable and so senseless. I have lost a loved one before their time in terrible circumstances so I understand that shock and horror.
I pray for Officer Hernandez, who I am certain is resting in the loving arms of Our Lord. I pray too for his wife, children, family and friends, that you achieve some peace and comfort each and every day.
God bless you all in everything you do.

Condolences to Officer Hernandez's family and fellow officers. I'm another civilian who just learned of this tragedy from a YouTube video (Midwest Safety's channel), Until body cams have become prevalent, I did not truly grasp how unbelievably stressful and dangerous it is to be a police officer. May you rest in peace, and I hope your loved ones have been able to find some measure of peace, also.

Jonah,
I saw your video on facebook today. The body camera footage of your last moments was harrowing, not only watching it occur, but feeling the fear and pain in your voice shortly before your assailant was neutralized.
I am so, so sorry.
I never knew you personally, but I feel a pain in my heart watching a distant brother die for the oath he swore.
Rest easy, Officer.
We have the watch.

Officer Hernandez, I never knew you personally, but your story truly broke my heart. When I learned what happened, I was in tears. Seeing even the shadow of those final moments was disturbing and painful—it showed how much you fought with courage until the end. You didn’t deserve what happened, and it makes me angry and sad at the same time.
But I don’t want to remember you only for that moment—I want to remember you for the love you had for your wife and children, for the way you laughed and filled your home with joy, and for the bravery you showed by protecting your community. Even though I live far away, your sacrifice touched me deeply, and I will never forget your name. Thank you for your service, for your courage, and for being the kind of man who made the world safer. Rest in peace, Officer Hernandez—you will never be forgotten.

I saw the True Crime video footage. Such a horrible tragedy. A tragic loss of life, a loss for the family, his wife and children, a loss to the department, a loss to his friends, brothers and sisters on the force, a loss to the community, and the LCPD. Officer Hernandez thank you for your service and the ultimate sacrifice you made. I will say a prayer for your soul.

I came here from a true crime video. Officer Hernandez you didn't deserve what happened to you,. just doing your job that you were trained to do. My thoughts and prayers are with your wife and sons. And fellow law enforcement officers that responded to save your life.
Our mental health care system is long overdue for a overhaul. I can only hope that the man that tried to help you knows he is a hero.

Mental health services in the country are awful. This is exactly why innocent people end up getting shot when reaching for stuff because you never know when this type on incident is about to happen. The people that are always asking how people without a weapon get killed, this is how. Because if you take even a second to stop and think, you'll unfortunately end up like this officer here. He didn't even have a moment to think and act before this guy was on him with a knife. And that's a knife not even a gun. So if you are ever talking with police officers, just try and understand that they don't know you and they don't know that you're a good person. To them you could be just like this guy in this video. 0 to 100 in a split second. And killing them. It's hard to see things from the other side it's easy to Monday morning quarterback everything. There have been times I've been frustrated with police but I always try and respect them and just keep everything in front of me where they can see it. Because they don't know me. This is a very sad story. You're probably going to get a lot of comments on this because of a recent video that popped up sharing this story. I'm sorry that the person that did this to him didn't get the help they needed with their schizophrenia. But even more so, I'm sorry for the innocent police officer and his family who now have to go without him. I don't believe in an afterlife but hopefully a lot of good will be done in his memory and it seems like it already has. Healthcare and mental health Access need to be more readily available in this country. It may not have helped the situation here, but it absolutely will help many situations. Rip sir.

Just saw this on Youtube from a body cam channel, this is some heartbreaking infuriating S#!( and I'm glad that scumbag was shot to death for doing this. Rest In Peace Jonah and I hope your child and wife and friends, family, everyone who lost you to such pointless trash can somehow find peace and be inspired to do great in their lives because of or despite this tragedy. I haven't been so effected by a random thing I've learned about in a long time and it's a disgrace that your killer was even born. RIP Jonah Hernandez.
