To learn that a fellow "Tar Heel" has been murdered simply tears at the heart. Each day another officer is killed and the Line of Brown/Grey/Blue/ and Green feels the pain. We pray for the soul of this Deputy, and for his family that he leaves behind that the Lord might send His love and His angels to comfort them in their loss and sustain them. May the Lord take this young Deputy and lead him to his place of honor beside his fallen Brothers in the Honor Guard for our Lord, each Officer smiling as they shake his hand and welcome him to Heaven. Our Lord assures that Ned's loved ones shall see him again in Heaven. Our Lord said to Mary in the Garden: "Why do you seek the living among the dead?" Your Deputy is not among the dead; he is among the living in Heaven.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
    With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."
