Officer East, i'm sorry for what happened to you on that day nearly 8 years ago, as your murder was out of pocket, and it was cruel. I learned about your case a few years back when i saw it on TV, and i learned about the suspect who took your life. From the footage i saw and everything that lead up to it, i can say for certain that the suspect was a piece of garbage. What bothers me is the fact he never gave you a chance to fight back, and executed you on the spot, for what reason? I'm not sure what the reason was for the killing, other than he was a disturbed individual, and that he was sick in the head. He knew exactly what he was doing and what he planned on doing, and i believe that it could've been prevented had he still been in handcuffs, but i did learn that ever since that day security precautions have improved and officers have done patdowns more cautiously, but honestly, i think the security measures should've been more tight beforehand, and it most likely would've been prevented. That man didn't take away a police officer, but he took away a husband, a father, and a hero to many, and he knew this and did what he did anyway, with no sympathy whatsoever. Thankfully however, he was caught in the end and sealed away from society, as society is better off without people like him roaming around. But honestly, i think that life isn't enough, as i think he should've atleast got the death sentence, since what he did was absolutely unneccessary and evil. It doesn't make sense to me, and it never will, with how people think that by murdering or harming a police officer it'll solve their current situation, when in reality, it's only making their current situation worse, and most of the time it isn't the police's fault for them feeling that way, as even now in society people can't control themselves nor their anger, which has only gotten worse as time has went on. I don't think there's enough words to describe what happened to you, as there wasn't a reason as to why you were killed, considering that the suspect could've went to jail and did his time, or it could've been a different outcome, but killing a police officer was unneccessary and unwarranted, as it didn't have to happen. But in other words, i'd like to look onto the positive side of things. From what i read and learned, you were just beginning your career as you only had 5 months on the job, considering you were still in training at the time. Other than that, i think that had your death been prevented, you could've done more than just those few months on the job considering you were passionate in your career. And even in your last moments before you died, you were polite and respectful to the man who would soon kill you, which says a few things about your character and who you were as a person. One thing i'd like to mention is that your impact, though it being short, has spread among others because of the sacrifice you made, and that others who learn about your story and who you were as an individual will begin to see that you were one of the good ones in law enforcement. Though i never personally met you, i think you were a good man to others as you were a great husband, father, brother, and friend to others as i believe that you were more than just an officer behind the badge and uniform. I'd like to think that as of now, you're protecting your family in the afterlife, the same way you did with the public as you were fearless and brave when it came to going out and facing danger each day, and you knew this, and went out and fought anyway, and if that doesn't describe how brave you were, i'm not sure what will. I believe that as of now you're protecting and serving in the afterlife, as you're reunited with your brothers in blue, and you're apart of God's army of angels. One thing i'd like to say is that becoming a police officer in one thing is difficult, but to become one in the grand state of Texas, which is one of the most dangerous states where officers are harmed, it says alot to how you didn't let that affect you and went in the line of danger anyway. But as of now, may you rest in peace knowing that your service will forever be cherished deeply, and that the citizens of Texas appreciated your service while you were alive, and that you'll never be forgotten for as long as time goes on, as your impact is still felt even today, along with those who didn't meet you. I think that when people learn about you and your story, it helps keep your memory alive as your legacy will not be forgotten. I'm certain that as long as people say your name and remember you, you aren't truly dead as you live on in the hearts and minds of others, and that your daughters will carry you in their hearts and carry on your legacy, and that your wife will feel your presence protecting her as she goes on throughout life and carries on for you, as i think that you wouldn't want those who knew you to quit just because you unfortunately passed, due to a spineless coward who couldn't accept responsibility for his actions and couldn't do the time. Rest Well Mr. Floyd

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Floyd was killed.

To the East family, fellow officers, and all who call Floyd beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Eat gave to his community and the citizens of Texas and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 9, 2017

Floyd,

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone with such a positive attitude and eagerness to learn. I can’t even remember what your face looked like without a smile on it. You truly had an infectious personality.

I’ll never forget the old man jokes, or you telling us how to save money by installing solar panels on our homes. Or how you always made it a point to turn in your chair and say hi to us when we walked in the door, no matter how busy you were.

I’m truly greatful for getting to know you the time I did. You were a great police officer and an even better man, husband, father, and friend. It was an honor to serve beside you.

You will never be forgotten, and your legacy will live on through the rest of us. Rest easy now, your work here is done. We have the watch.

An absolutely beautiful service for a hero that I was profoundly privileged to have attended on behalf of my department, and as a former member of TTPD.

I stated this to one of your family members, but perhaps this may help others make some sense of what seems to be a senseless tragedy: You and your fellow TTPD officers did what you were supposed to do that day - you stopped a psychotic student from being able to harm any other student, staff, or faculty member ever again.

As such, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED....as it is every single day by thousands of campus law enforcement and security professionals nationwide.

We only grieve that performing that mission came at such a cost and loss, and we will remember you eternally for it.

Dear Floyd:

What seems to be a re-occurring event every week, again I write a reflection to a fallen brother. I thank you for your service, and as a fellow brother in blue, I am proud of you and the sacrifice you and your family have made. “Protect and serve”. Yes folks, it IS a code we in law enforcement live by, not an overused cliché.

Yes folks, this outstanding American gave his life to protect you, all of you, even a spoiled, mediocre talented, disrespecting football player who refuses to stand for our National Anthem and our flag honoring Floyd and the 20,000 law enforcement officers who gave their all. Or those who hate police because, they just are full of hate for a group of men and women who do a job VERY few can do, for very little financial reward. And the vermin that committed this horrific act of cowardice, part of me would have liked seeing you die in the gutter from which you came, but, since I am in a fraternity like no other, respecting and believing in our judicial system, I looked forward to the day when the Lone Star State sends you to hell. “For the candle of the wicked shall be put out forever”.

Our way of life in America is under attack every day, not only overseas, but rather here in the Homeland. OUR Homeland, our sacred Homeland. The same Homeland that our forefathers promised we can live in peace to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Your supreme sacrifice further enhances that promise. But these freedoms are not free. Unfortunately, a price is paid, a very heavy price. Not only by the officer, but is or her family as well. We can never repay you, Floyd, or every other one of us that have made the supreme sacrifice, except to commit to keeping your service and your memory alive.

Rest in peace, Floyd, and smile knowing you are in Heaven now, as you spent your time in hell.
God bless you, your family, and God bless the United States of America.
