Reflections for Police Officer Brian Eric Huff
Officer Huff, I'm sorry for what happened to you that night 15 years ago, as you didn't deserve it. The man who took your life that day had no reason to do it, and he was a very cruel and selfish person to do what he did. I believe the reason he did it was because he wasn't himself, and that he was filled with wrath and rage on the inside, and was so consumed by it that he wasn't thinking right, and didn't think about accepting responsibility for his actions. He could've went to jail and got his sentence over with, but chose to make a choice that would prove how much of a coward he was to not take accountability for his acts of breaking the law. What bothers me the most is that he didn't give you a chance to fight back, as you were in a position to where you had your flashlight in hand and you were focused on kicking down the door, unbeknownst of what was to come moments after. He didn't just take away a police officer that night, but a father, a husband, a friend, and a man who's job was to protect and serve while putting other's safety over his. In other words, he got what was coming to him as he was hit by return gunfire and wounded, along with the fact he's been sealed away permanently from society as it is more safer with less people like him roaming the earth and the streets of Detroit. But honestly, I think he should've been put in the ground on the spot, and if not, a whole lot sooner. But it doesn't change the fact that his time will come, as karma reaches those who do wrong, especially to those who are willing to harm and kill a police officer, as there's always a penalty for doing such vile actions to the men and women who protect and serve whilst holding the line. I think it'd be best to look on the bright side of things. First, I think during your 12 years of service to the people of Detroit and as an officer, you did alot during your time as a cop. And during those 12 years, you made an impact larger than what you thought you did, as your sacrifice proved how dedicated and brave you were to face danger in the eyes and fight against it. But despite that, your service like yours is one that deserves recognition and is one to remember, as I believe that alot of people you met during youe time alive know about your story and who you were as an officer. Also, I believe now your son has grown up to learn about your history and what you did as a Detroit police officer, as he now knows more about who his father was and the things you did, along with the legacy you left behind, which is unfortunate in itself. I'd like to think now you're serving as a guardian angel for your family, as you watch over and protect those you love, along with your son and wife who know now that you're their protector, exactly how you protected your people from danger as your family knows that no evil will harm them with you spiritually being there for them, ensuring their safety. Although I personally never met you, and I was young at the time of your death, I think you were a great man and a good person to meet and talk to, since you were certainly well liked and had made a good amount of friends in a span of time, along with the friends and family you made in law enforcement. Though it's been 15 years, it still doesn't diminish the fact you were once protecting your city and people, along with the fact that people could safely go home at night with strong men like you protecting and watching them, and being on the lookout for any signs of danger or a nearby threat. I believe that as long as your name Is said and you're remembered and talked about, and as long as other people learn about you and your story, you aren't truly forgotten or dead, as you live on in the minds and hearts of others, which goes to show that you will always be remembered and your service will never be forgotten as long as time goes on. But all in all, I think it's safe to say your service is appreciated, so may you rest in peace knowing that your service is forever cherished, and you will not be forgotten for as long as your name is said, and that your killer will receive his punishment once his time comes, as Karma is waiting for him around the corner. Rest Well Mr. Huff.

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:
“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]
[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

When I think of DPD and the start of my career, I think of you and I standing in that dark, dusty stair well on Montcalm, 30 minutes early, the two of us anticipating what the day would bring on the other side of the door. No thought of not seeing the end together many years later. Start together, finish together 98H-98I. You smiled and cracked jokes to ease our nervousness. We made it through and continued to be friends, always happy to see one another and share in the joys of our sons. I was devastated by the news of your death, my breath taken away. You were taken too soon. I miss you my friend.
