Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Kristine Marie Fairbanks

We are organizing to get ready to move. We have been told my husband's state park position has been cut. When we move I will be abandoning my business which you were a client. I have been finding pictures of your daughter at various ages, cards from you and other things. Now, another Ranger has been shot and killed. She leaves two young daughters. Her husband is a Ranger too. The parallels here are so eerie. My heart breaks again for you and your family and this new Ranger family. Once again I hope that your last words to your family were of love (although, knowing you they may not have been, LOL) just as I do for Park Ranger Margaret Anderson. But, I know they were words of normal life, then things changed and life was no longer normal, and it will never be again.

Thinking of you today Kris. Still miss you and tear up as if it were yesterday. Still can't believe the world is without you. I hope your friends, both two and four legged, are doing okay. Every time I play with four-leggeds, I think of you and the wonder and joy you shared with them. Bet you're playing with a whole herd of barking, tail wagging friends up there!

It is hard to believe you have been gone for 3 years. I think of you all the time, but really hits when out with the K9's for training. There are memories of you all around, and I still tear up when I think of the loss to your family, and to our community. You will always be remembered.

Dear Kris,

I can't believe it's been three whole years. I miss you so much. We had a race today, and I ran it for you. I got 2nd place and a personal record of 53 seconds.
I am officially an intern with the PA PD. I even have an ID card. I have really enjoyed it so far.
Kris, I miss you. I miss you so badly. I wish that I could talk to you, see you, hug you. I wish you could see who I am today. I changed so much because of you. You are the reason I am going into law enforcement.
I have so much more to say, but somehow the words won't come, just the tears. I miss you. I miss you.
Love,
Kristen

Dear Kris,

I didn't know you much, just when you came to church. I thank you for your service, you will never be forgotten.

I want to thank you for everything you did in our community. And how many people's lives you changed. From what I can remember and here in stories, you were an awesome teacher and mentor. When my day comes to be an leo, you and the four officers that went down November 29, 2009 will always be in my mind. You are one of the reasons I want to become a leo.

Dear Kris,

Oh I wish you were here. There is so much happening that I could use your advice on. I am probably going to become an intern with the PA Police Department this summer. You would be so proud of me, I know. I am so different from who I was when you knew me. It's a good different. I stand up for myself and others. I'm not afraid of people anymore, Kris, and it is wonderful. Not that I think I am invincible, no far from it, but I am not afraid of people anymore. I cannot thank you enough for making me who I am today. I would not be me without you.
I miss you.
Love,
Kristen

Thinking of you Kris... I know you and Shane still hear our calls for a "back-up" officer; even when we don't transmit the request.

Kris,
I was thinking about you today as I often do. Thinking about the good times we have had together and the struggles with the K-9 program. I miss you, and wish your family well.

Just thinking of you this Christmas and New Years. You should be here with your family and friends celebrating. It is hard to imagine anything more unfair than what happened to you that fateful day. Bless us and watch over us as we all do our best to be better people and keep you alive in our memories. You were a special hero and friend to many. Bless you. Bless you. Bless you....

Even though I did not know you, I think of you often and pray that your daughter and husband can find some happiness in the memories they shared with you. As a woman in law enforcement, your passing has affected me tremendously. May God bless your soul and I hope to meet you in heaven. You were a great role model!

Dear Kris,
I'm sorry I missed doing this on the anniversary. I was at State fair with Lola. We got a white, but I know you would have been proud just to see us there.
I dunno what else to say. I think of you every day. There has not been a day gone by since you died that I do not think of you. And it still hurts. I love you.
Thanks for everything.
Love,
Kristen

Dear Kris,
Lola is recovering from her surgery well, and I should be able to start working with her again soon. Hopefully we will make it to State this year. I have a schutzhund book and two tracking books, and am studying them intently. I am learning a lot, and I hope to be able to put it to good use.
Happy birthday! I miss you a lot.
Love, Kristen
