Reflections for Police Officer Nicola Diane Cotton
Rest in Peace! You are a true hero and will NEVER be forgotten

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."
Karl Von Clausewitz
The Metro area Law Enforcement community lost a warrior. Officer Cotton chose the path of the warrior, may we all strive to live up to her example. My heartfelt sympathy to Officer Cottons family, and the members of the NOPD. Rest in Peace Officer Cotton.

R.I.P. Nicola,
You fought a courageous fight and you will be missed.
If Tears Could Build A Stairway
If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why
Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know
But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store
Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay

You are the thirteenth officer this year to lay down their life in the name of law and order, to serve and protect the persons who may not ever get a chance to know you but there is one thing we all know is you sacrificed your life for them.
Even though we never met we are all brothers, and today
We all mourn for you.
We shed a tear for you
We say a prayer for you
We salute you
We all thank you for being a part of the brother hood
May God bless you and your family and our brothers and

Officer Cotton you are a brave hero who did not run from the fight. We only know what we are truly made of when we are tested to the depths of our souls. You met the evil and did not give up nor did you run from a devasting situation. You are a warrior.
To the Cotton family, my heart breaks for the you and loss of Nicola. I too have lost a dear family member in the line of duty and I am so sorry you now have to walk this road of hurt and grief. I hope you lean on our Lord for comfort and rest. Believe this fine officer did everything she could in this fight to return safely to you. Honor her for the hero she is and she will never be forgotten.
To the my brothers and sisters of the NOPD - may God grant you peace. Take care of Officer Cotton's family.

I feel so outraged and angry after reading how long you fought that piece of garbage by yourself. I hope some good comes from this terrible tragedy. I really pray your family leans on God during these trying times. Your loss is a loss for all of us in law enforcement.

I know of no words that are adequate. No words that will suffice. I would just like for the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Nicola Cotton to know there are folks all across this country that will lift you up in prayer before the Almighty.
May you each experience the eternal love and endless blessings of our Lord and Savior in the coming days.

To the Cotton Family,
I pray that the Holy Spirit will be there to guide and strengthen you. God blessed you with memories of an angel. She loved to protect and serve. Be comforted knowing that she is in a far better place. Keep her memory in your heart and she will live on forever. Keep her torch burning by starting that organization that she want to help young girls in her community.
RIP Officer Nicola Cotton

To the family and fellow officers of Nicola,
I am so sorry for your loss. When I read this on WWL yesterday I had tears welling in my eyes. I am a New Orleans girl that no longer lives there but my heart is in New Orleans.
I am married to a police officer, am friends with many officers and have taken care of many officers in my nursing career and just want to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. It's never easy to lose someone you love and are friends with.

I AM REMEMBERED
I can make a policeman fall to his knees and sob uncontrollably.
I can make the whole world stop, and bring citizens together.
Bagpipes of Amazing Grace fade away as you bow your head in sorrow.
My police uniform displayed, I am remembered for the heroic things I've done.
Final Salute, folded flag at hand,
You take me away while I follow.
Don't cry for me, I promise I am okay now.
Stay strong forever, because that's how I dedicated my life for you.
