Reflections for Master Trooper David Edward Rich

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Master Trooper Rich's family. As it closes in on my Brother-in-Law's memorial this July 8th, this brings another sad day to remember. Deputy Sheriff Gene Gregory of Seminole County Fl paid the ultimate price July 8th 1998 and he is very missed here as Master Trooper Rich is. It is said that time heals all, but I wonder just how much time it will take as my heart still aches each time a LEO pays the price. Rest easy Master Trooper Rich and watch over all those left behind. You are a good man.

A true civil servant to the end- helping someone in apparent need. It is time to rest and let your brothers and sisters carry the load, and your children carry your legacy.

Here we are at this memorial, trying to say things to help the widow's and children and all the rest of the loved ones who has had this wonderful man taken from their lives. What a tragedy, and such a senseless act. When do you think this senseless killing will stop?????????Well it won't be soon I am afraid, but we know he was a HERO and we will honor him in every way we know how. Our prayers and our thoughts are with all who knew this Trooper.
"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

I can hardly believe that Indiana has to lose another officer to the abundant evil in the world. Trooper Rich was doing what he was sworn to do and trying to help a citizen in a time of need, and lost his life over yet another senseless tragedy. In this line of work you never know when danger will confront you face to face, and when you will be called to sacrifice your all. By doing so unknowingly, Trooper Rich also may have saved additional lives that day by giving his in the name of service.

God bless your family- both your own and your brothers in blue.
