Lieutenant Teagan's Family and Friends,
I know the coming weeks ahead will be hard. I've walked in the path you are walking through now and I wish I could give you some words of wisdom. Each survivor of an officer killed has their own ways of dealing with the pain of their loss. I can't really say that some get through it any easier than others, because none of it is easy. We go through it because we dont have a choice. For those with children, we take on the rolls of mother, father, breadwinner, coach, psychologist, referee, chaufuer and all around handyman. You make schedules and lists. Then turn around and re-write those schedules and make more lists. Sometimes its a little overwelming but we make it work. As each day passes, it adds to our strength. The more strength we build, the easier the roles become.
For the co-workers, the pain is just as real. Those of us who put on the uniform, have a special bond, the likes no one can understand. We sweat together, bleed together, laugh and joke together and sometimes, during times like these, we shed a tear together. We are family, no matter the color of our uniform or the shape of our badge. When one falls, it hurts all of us. It takes someone very special to put on that uniform and face the "ugliness" of this world. I'm sure that if LT. was anything like my husband, he did it with a smile and if given another chance, he would do this job again. I hope and pray that God lays his gentle hand upon your heart.
Through the last two years, I've learned how one simple human life has the ability to affect so much and so many. I've come to appreciate three simple words that can sum up what a person's life should be about. Live, Laugh and Love.... LIVE each and everyday as if there is no tomorrow and surround yourself with all the gifts that life can bring. LAUGH at everything including yourself for humor can be found in every situation good or bad, and LOVE with everything you have, you may never get another chance.
I found a poem that I'm leaving for my husband at the Memorial Wall this year. I'd like to share it with you.
I'M THERE INSIDE YOUR HEART
Right now i'm in a different place,
And though we seem apart,
I'm closer than I ever was...
I'm there inside your heart.
I'm with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright,
I'm there to share the sunsets, too...
I'm with you every night.
I'm with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall...
I'll still be there for you.
And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I'll smile and hold you close to me...
Forever in my heart,
