It’s nearly 3am and I find myself wide awake thinking of you. It’s been almost 19 years since we last saw you and somehow it seems like only days. We miss ya, Chuck! Give Mommaw, Poppaw and my Rusty a big hug for me.. ❤️Love you! ❤️

Corporal Smith, i'm sorry for what happened to you that night nearly 19 years ago, as you didn't deserve it. The person who killed you was nothing but a coward, as he didn't have a reason to do what he did to you. Thankfully however, he was sentenced to life in prison for his actions, as he won't see the light of day again, and he most certainly won't hurt anyone again, as he was truly a danger to society and deserves everything that happens to him. Karma is gonna take it's time with him, to make sure he truly suffers for his actions regarding your death. Not only did he take away a police officer, but a father, a husband, and a soldier who served his country. I think that no matter what mercy is given to him, he should never be forgiven for taking away a man who was doing his job in providing for his family and protecting others. But with him being sentenced to life without parole, there's a chance that he won't be forgiven for what he did, because he's someone who deserves no mercy. But however, from what i learned, you were one of the good officers in the state of West Virginia, as you spent nearly 6 years on the force, and you loved what you did for not just others, but for the community aswell. And on top of that you were a marine, meaning you really were a brave man who served not just his community, but his country aswell, so you sir have my upmost respect for that. You showed how brave of a man you truly were, as you fought until the end, which goes to show how strong you were. But as i mentioned earlier, you were avenged in death, as your brothers in blue caught the man who took you away. But honestly, i think he should've gotten the death sentence, so they could just put that waste of garbage in the ground already. But thankfully, everybody who met you knew what kind of person you were, as i can tell you were the kindof guy to put everyone's safety before your own, which says alot about your character. Also, i'm sure everybody in the state of West Virginia appreciated your service while you were alive, as you made sure everybody could go home, knowing they were protected by somebody like you who would fight for them if they couldn't. Furthermore, i'm sure your daughter has grown up to learn about who her father was, as she most likely knows about her father's legacy and knows that her dad was a hero and a man of bravery. But as of now, may you rest in peace knowing your service is appreciated, and that your service as an officer and marine is appreciated, and you died protecting others and your country. But most of all, your killer will receive his punishment when his time comes, as karma will one day reach him, and make him pay for everything he did. Rest Well Mr. Smith

Chuck,

We had never met, but I came to your funeral. As a former WV police officer, I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you for the ultimate sacrifice that you made on that fateful night.

You were a sheepdog my friend. The wolves were never safe with you standing sentry.
