As a wife of a Massachusetts State Police Trooper and we parents of two, we seem to live in denial and pray that the nightmare will never come true. As wives we always worry even though we try to not let it show. We are PROUD of our Troopers and the job that they love so much and do so well.
Trooper Paul Barry was my husbands classmate 1st platoon, which is why it hits so close to home. It seems like this could or would never happen and why we will never know. For all that he has done; his services, his dedication, his loyalty to his wife and how he honored his children will ALWAYS be remembered! Trooper Barry will always be in our hearts and minds, even though he may not be here with us, he is never to far behind.
My family would like to send our deepest condolences to your family, friends and to all the MSP Troopers. It is a reality check to us all and we stand by you hand and hand. It will be a hard long road a head of you but you will get by because you will remember that he is and will always by your side. I personally don't know what to say that will help you through this tragic loss, but as a wife of a MSP Trooper your husband/father/son/brother will always be remembered and NEVER will be forgotten!
May Paul rest in peace and may you also find peace for your family and all of those around you. We are very sorry for all that has happened and we want you to know that if there is anything we could do please just let us know! We will have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers each day. As Trooper Paul F. Barry will be RESPECTED, HONORED and FOREVER a HERO to us all!

When we met the Barry's 2 years ago at the Franklin Childrens Center preschool I knew in an instant that we were making friends for life. My youngest son, Jack, became best friends with Paul's daughter so we were thrilled to discover that one of the Barry boys would be on my son Ricky's baseball team. For 2 years now the Barry's have been our "baseball family". Without fail Paul would arrive at the games armed with toys, snacks, and plenty of extra cash for the ice cream man. Regardless of what happened on the field that day, there wasn't a more proud father in the stands. Paul Barry had every right to that pride. His children are the most genuinely kind people I have ever met. They give to one another unconditionally, and without ever having to be asked. They radiate the happiness, love, and warmth that comes from living in a home where you know you are special. The Barry Family lives the gift of life.

It is terribly hard for us to imagine that Paul is gone, that we won't pull up to the ball field to see him standing there with a Dunkin iced coffee and a box of munchkins, a pack of kids scootering around him. We will miss having that gentle man beside us who always made you feel like everything was going to be alright. We'll miss his laugh, his smile, his peacefulness. But there is beauty, too.

There is beauty in the fact that his oldest daughter is Paul all over. Looking into her face you see everything her father was...gentle and easy going, but strong. As you look at each child you find Paul, something in the eyes, the smile, the mannerisms. There is beauty in knowing that Maryellen will have 7 children to share the memory of the love of her life with, to keep the spirit that drives them alive. My child once asked me "what if you die?" I looked at him and said, "By the time I die I will be so much a part of you that you won't know where I end and you begin."

About a week before Paul's accident his mother told me a story about Paul as a little leaguer. She said that his coach wished every kid on his team was a Paul Barry. He was the happiest to be there, he cheered the loudest, he loved the game the most. And when he missed a pop up he would look at her, smile and say, "The sun was in my eyes, so I missed that one. But I'm gonna get the next one."

We will miss you, Paul.
