Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Gregory Lei Hunter

I know that Greg is one of God's Angels now with his big shining smile lighting up Heaven. I had the privilege of meeting Greg a few times and I always recall a 1000 watt smile and a kind word - along with usually a joke about my dear husband! I pray that God wraps Greg in His Arms and keeps him tight and shelters his family in these difficult days ahead. I think about his wife constantly and pray for her to have the strength to get through this. She is experiencing what every police officer's wife prays never to endure - especially such a brutual crime with no good-bye to be said between them. I am so proud that my husband is a police officer - Greg hired him and he had such respect for him. He will be dearly missed by all!! I thank you from the bottom of my heart your years of service to this fine city I grew up in. I know you made it a better place!

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Sergeant Hunter for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

To the Family and friends of Sgt Hunter
May God Bless you and hold you in his loving hands in this time of sorrow. From all I have read here I am truly sorry to have not known Sgt Hunter! Fellow Dispatchers, Officers and all who are in this line of work, this is a time we all hope we never have to see,but know that it's always a possibility. To continue on will seem impossible, you can and you will And in doing so you will carry on Sgt Hunter's good name. Never forget the price he has paid and the sacrifice his Family has made to make the city a better place to live and work. To you Mrs Hunter, hold your head high for you truly gave the department and the city a wonderful hero! There's no doubt he loved his job. Rest assured that he will be watching over his Family and Friends from his Beat in the heavens above. Revel in the knowledge that Gregory has gained his place with God and that one day you will be with him again. God Bless and Keep you. You all are in my thoughts and prayers

I worked with Greg during my time at the City of Grand Prairie in HR recruiting. He was a tough but fair recruiter & I was proud when I heard he had made Sgt. When we needed an outside panelist in Cedar Hill, my first thought was Greg, because I knew he would serve with honesty, professionalism, and integrity, which he did. I am enraged that his life was cut short, and he will probably be the one I think of when I have to remind folks that there are many, many good officers out there. To his wife and kids, know that he loved you so much and never left any doubt that you were his first priority and his pride. I'm glad I got to know him and work with him. He was truly a good guy.

Sarge,
It's never easy going to a policeman's funeral, I've been to several. I hate the way people care about us when we're dead, instead of when we are alive. I hope you rest peacefully knowing you have been avenged. What happened to you and the other officer was a subject of roll call for many days, at least you tried to solve the situation as rational people know how. You will be missed; good sergeants are hard to come by.

To Seargent Hunter and the rest of these american heros, thank you for your selfless act. IT is regrettable that we still live in a world where violence seems to pervade and infect our lives. But if it were not for heros such as Seargent Hunter, things would be much worse. These officers who have perished did so, protecting all of us. My only regret is never having met this great individual. rest in peace sir and may your family take comfort in knowing that you are in the arms of god resting peacefully.

Upon hearing about the passing of Sgt. Hunter, I could'nt help but to reflect back to way he lived his life and the respect that was given to him by his neighboring cities and throughout the State of Texas. Being the first African American Police Officer in the City of Hurst, the event had a special interest on how my life somewhat pararalled Sgt. Hunter's. From all reports he was a likeable and well respected person that died doing what he believed in. I would like to say to the Family and friends; be strong, your love one didnt die in vain. The world need more Greg Hunters in the world. A man that is not afraid to venture out, accept a challenge and make a difference. I salute him!

From all that I have read and know about Sgt. Hunter he is a man that lived his life, not a man that just existed in this world. I know in my heart that he lived his life doing a job that he loved to do. It take a special heart to do a job that places you life in danger daily.

To the family of Sgt. Hunter my deepest sympahty go out to you for the sacrifice that you have given to the citizens of Grand Prairie.

I pray that all will see the biger picture that God has planned in your life. I pray that God will watch over Sgt. Hunter's family, friends and co-workers.

To the family, Kirk and I grieve with you and are deeply sorry for your loss, Greg meant a lot to us both. To the department, words can't express how we feel. As dispatchers these are our worst fears come true. But we know that Greg is resting now, and he and Bruce stopped something else from happening that day, we dont know what he had planned, Greg paid the ultimate price. And to that we owe you eternal gratitude, Greg you are a hero! Please continue to watch over us everyday. God Bless
