What a strong man Sgt. Rife must have been to be able to return fire, mortally wound his shooter, and still call for help afterwards. He sounds like he was a fighter. It's time for him to rest now and let his brothers and sisters in blue continue the fight for him. God Bless You, Sgt. Rife...your sacrifice will NOT be forgotten!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this terrible tragedy. Know that others have shared your pain, and you are not alone. One day, you shall all be reunited one fine day. Know that he is in a place surrounded by the finest law enforcement has to offer ... all of our beloved fallen heroes. May God bring peace to you and help you see this through.

Not only was Cliff an outstanding policeman, he was my wonderful son-in-law for the past 15 years and a wonderful husband to my daughter, Kristine, and father to my grandchildren, Brittney and Clifton III. He has gone too soon. I shall love and miss him always. Pookie

Reading the reflections has been helpful. I know that I'm not alone, even though it feels like it. I can look at our daughter and son and see him in their faces.
I will love him forever and can't wait to see him again.

Clifton, I've read all your reflections . . . I wish I could have known you, you were obviously a wonderful person. And as a policeman . . . a true, genuine warrior . . . fighting your last battle with dignity and honor, protecting the community, killing your murderer . . . a true warrior . . . a true hero. Go rest high on that mountain my brother. We all give "some" . . . you gave "all." Go rest high on that mountain . . . we'll proudly cover your post on the thin blue line. Say hello to my good friend, and your MPDC (7th District Narcotics) Brother, Bruce Wilson, EOW in 1977 . . . A Washington D.D., Police Hero . . . just like you. Clifton, I honor you, your name, your memory, and mostly, for the ultimate sacrifice you made protecting us all . . . Sergeant Clife Rife II, a warrior. Cliff, Cliff, Cliff...March 12, 2004, I walked onto a stage to a man of stature who jokingly said to me, "What you been waiting on Rookie!" Proudest moment in my life when you pinned on my badge.
The sadness and the emptiness I feel now will slowly go away. I woke up to a nightmare on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at 0421AM. Being there shattered my life because I lost a brother and a true friend. I made a promise to you, you know which one I'm talking about and now I'm taking care of that promise.
The long talks we had and the rides the three of us took will always be in my memory. Remember how you use to joke about me calling and waking you up but now you will forever rest. I'll miss you with all my heart.
To Cliff Rife II, you fought the fight and made 14 "rounds" count....a warrior to the end.
To the family of Cliff Rife, you are wonderful and I'm glad you gave me the chance of meeting a wonderful man.
Forever and Always, Love you.
