Deputy Warden McConnell,
On today, the 90th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of New York City. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement then that of a Corrections Officer.

William J McConnell was born December 2, 1882. He would have been 49 at the time of his death.
My dad was almost 3 at the time of his father’s death.
Always remembered.

My Father William James McConnell (second) use to keep his twin Colt 45's wrapped up in one of my baby blankets, I wonder if these were his Fathers guns, William James McConnell (first). I still own them . Perhaps not his at all. Amazing to read his story, his wife Alta raised the three children alone and one of my daughters carries her name. All three are now deceased. My oldest brother also named William James McConnell ( third) is alive and doing well.

I said a little prayer today for Deputy Warden McConnell and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 80th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Laslater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.Rest In Peace
Your family was denied justice by the acquital of the convict's wife for if she had not smuggled in the weapon, this incident would not have happened.

Keeping the McConnell family in my prayers. The family of fallen heros are so highly effected by such tragedy. I was never given the opportunity to meet my grandfather, but I can see the pain my grandmother feels everyday.
I hope you can find comfort as well through websites such as this that help us to honor our loved ones. God Bless you and your family.

William J McConnell was my Great Uncle. I have been trying to get some information for my mother. I think that it is great that he is still remembered today and we as a family are very proud of him.
