Derrick was like my brother.. We worked at CMHA police dept. Together until i later went on to ECPD.. He had ask me and another officer to work with him that night, but we had to work the early car assignment the next morning! He will forever live on in my heart. A true friend and HERO. I was in the academy. We worked multiple clubs as I headed “loss Prevention”. I remember Terry King coming into our Academy class Early Saturday morning as he could barely contain himself. He broke the news to new recruits and it got real for real for us as you were to be laid to rest. All they had to do was leave the club and you could have left and went home. It’s funny how I’m writing this all of these years later as CNHA detective June another childhood friend Just left hear two days ago from a pandemic called coronavirus. But you know that already. Don’t you? I pray you’re resting comfortably under a tree eating grapes and talking with Jesus.

Officer Lanier, today is a solemn anniversary. 22 years ago today you were murdered by a pair of meaningless thugs. I hope they paid for their crimes, your family certainly has.
I pray for your continued rest and God Bless. God keep the women and men of the CMHA Police safe as they go about their daily rounds.

I was also working the night of your death. That night will forever be etched in my memory. I remember how we found out the location of your assailant. CPD surrounded him and wouldn't let us get to him. Thank God because I was so angry and upset!!! I shouldn't have ever went to W.96th and Madison but when they said " CMHA Officer down", it shot volts through my entire body, because we are all bvrothers and sisters under the blue. You are missed Bro. Although I was older then you when you passed, I never meant such a strong willed, courageous individual, with such a big heart.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.
