Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective John Apanites, Jr.

Jackie, I am the daughter of Bert Rogers, a former partner of John, godfather to my brother ,
Tim Rogers. My father Bert would very much like to get in touch with you and I would appreciate it if you would allow me to give him your phone number so he can talk to you. Please get in touch with me at . I still think of John and your loss even though I was only a young teen at the time of his death. It affected me deeply and still does, perhaps because I knew you as such good people and still cannot accept his death in my heart. I know it's been over 40 years but every April 7, I think, I remember and I pray for you, John and your children. God Bless and I hope to hear from you soon.

How stranged I never used "Google" and then I did today. John was my husband, father of my two wonderful children and always was my friend. I remember one day when I was feeling down in the dumps with the kids being only 15 months apart and I said to John, anyhone could do this job, and he looked at me and said, "you have the most important job, you are their mother". John could have easily raised the children, he was before his time and loved John Michael and Babes so very much. We still love him, we miss him, and know some day we will see him. Jackie

I remember John as a rookie with East Cleveland Police Department. He was a gentleman's gentleman. He was an ultimate professional and left nothing but great memories of having been associated with him and having him as a friend. Rest in Peace my Friend-you wil never be forgotten by anyone wearing a badge.

Dear John,

Just came across this website. Wanted you to know we think and pray for you and your family often. My dad, your friend and fellow officer, always described you as the nicest person he ever met. "The kind of guy you wanted your daughter to marry."

He lived his life with that day always with him. It was evidenced by his limp from the bullet of the gun that struck him that day too. He never knew exactly what happened after he was shot, but always thought you came to his aid. For that caring moment, he always thought you were with him.

Rest in peace officer John Apanites, Jr. God bless you and your family. Also, rest in peace dad, officer John M. McNamara who passed away in 2007. My you meet in heaven and share your stories from Petrie's.

As we recently lost another Fallen Cleveland Police Officer I fondly recall Detective John Apanites, a fellow student at Collinwood. It was such a tragedy that we lost John thirty nine years ago. I have been a strong advocate of our military, police and firefighters the past 6 years. We can't thank them enough as they go into harms way in the line of duty, when we are all running the opposite way. God bless John and his family. Your family and all the other famiies of our Fallen Police Officers shall remain in our prayers.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

Detective Apanites, you are remembered on this date of your death. You will always be remembered.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
