Just a correction here : Souza was a Corrections Officer and Baranowski was an Industrial Instructor. Souza was working the desk in the visiting room when the inmate's wife smuggled the guns in and was shot by the inmate after he acquired them from his wife.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 41rst anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I thank your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

I was a Correction/Sergeant at MCI-Norfolk from 1980-1986 before transferring closer to home. I was under the impression that the shooter was still at Walpole serving his life sentence.

I served at MCI-N for twenty years and not a day went by when the sacrifice of these two men was not on the officer corps collective minds. I am pleased that a facility was named after them. Were it were not necessary. God Bless You Both!

Corrections Officer Souza, thank you for all your efforts to keep criminals away from society while they serve their sentences. I know it's a difficult job and women and men like you are heroes for doing it.
I cannot say I take joy in the fact that the scum who killed you first killed the very woman who brought the gun to him, but I cannot lie and say I feel bad either. I do feel somewhat bad that the scum in question took his own life instead of facing the court. Then again, it’s Massachusetts; he may very well have been given a suspended sentence and freed. I guess justice was served in a sad way.
God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
