Officer Sheppard,
I worked with your daughter Pat when she was a jailer at the Perry County Sheriff’s Department. She speaks of you with fond memories, love, and the utmost admiration. She misses and loves you more than you can imagine. We will do everything we can to make today as easy as possible. Rest easy Officer.

Shep was my husband, Tom Pisut's partner. It was Tom's day off. Our kids were the same age as theirs. We still think of him and Eva. He looked like he was smiling as he lay in his coffin.
Shep...you will never be forgotten.

Patricia - I was only 4 in 1971, but I grew up in Highland and spent a lot of time at the park named after your father. Anyone who grew up there knows of your father's sacrifice and my heart still goes out to you even after all this time. I live in Warrick County now, so just know that someone near you remembers him too.

I was a classmate of Patricia's when her dad died. An event that I will never forget. At that age we thought our folks would always be there. Patty, I will never forget that day. Changed me forever.

I would like to thank everyone for their reflection. It truly touches my heart to know there are still people who think about us. Although I've been in Perry Co, IN for many years, I will always call Highland my home.

I still remember that day, it will haunt me the rest of my life, since I was the head of the Department at that time. I always wondered what happened to your family, but never found out after they left the area. You were a credit to your service and to the people of Highland

Patty you were my dear friend back then. I couldn't believe it when I got home (3 doors away) when my father told me. Your father inspired my llife as I tried to become a cop. I think about you , your father and our friendship back then. It's been almost 39 years. I never got to say I love you. I tried to ask you out years later but you said no. You were my friend and I still think of you. Call me if you want!!

It is with great sadness that I recall that day. I was in class with his daughter Pattie. We knew something awful had happened, but didn't know what. It was a day I'll never forget.

I am saddened everytime that I look at this page but am just now writing here. I found out some time ago that my father was a Griffith Police Officer and he was patroling on Ridge and Cline that night. The gunman's car was travelling in the direction of my father that night. If Officer Sheppard had not pulled him over that night then my father would have been the one to do so.
Officer Sheppard, you sacrificed your life and as a citizen I thank you for that. I know that you are still looking down from Heaven protecting your family.
