Reflections for Officer Gordon Joseph Rich

Joe,
I remember having a great time with you and Keith Evans whitewater rafting in West Virgina! And then riding around with Keith and you catching speeders!!I miss you Joe and Keith does too. I often visited you gravesite out in New Albany, Ohio. I would ride my bicycle there from my parents' house and sit and talk to you (gravesite that is). I just hoped and prayed that you were enjoying yourself in HEAVEN.

Miss you JOE!!

Officer Rich was killed 9 years to the day before my husband. Today is the anniversary of that sad day for two families within the Columbus Division of Police. As my thoughts dwell on how our lives were turned upside down, I cannot help but think about Officer Rich's family too, and hope that they are well. I see your son and his family at many of the memorial services and he wears the uniform you wore and seems to wear it with such pride. Be proud.

"Joe" Rich was one of the finest men I have ever known. He worked special duty at the hotel where I was a night auditor. Having worked with him for 2 years .. I gained a special friendship that has affected my very thinking concerning law enforcement. He taught me to have respect for the law .. as it is mean't to be .. and not necessarily as it is. He was a fair and peaceful man that always had a good word and smile for anybody. I am a better man this day for having known him. The world suffers when good men are taken from it.
