Policeman John Naccarato was shot and killed while attempting to question two suspicious men near the intersection of 52nd Street and 11th Avenue.
Policeman Naccarato and his partner observed the two men moving suspiciously around two cars that were parked on 52nd Street. As Policeman Naccarato exited the patrol car, one of the men opened fire with a Luger pistol, killing him.
His partner was able to return fire and kill the man who shot Policeman Naccarato. The other subject fled on foot.
Policeman Naccarato was a US Navy veteran of WWII and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He had served with the Los Angeles Police Department for 13 months. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
