Agent Daniel Hancock was killed in an automobile accident while he and another agent pursued a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal whiskey in Dougherty County, near Moultrie, Georgia.
The other agent, who was driving at the time, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. The suspects that were being pursued were arrested later on by federal agents.
Agent Hancock had served with the Georgia Department of Revenue for 12 years.

I may be the youngest person here who remembers him -- he worked closely with my father, and his wife was a close friend of my mother, and baby-sat me when I was about 3 years old, around 1960. When Mr. Hancock died, I was about 5 years old and realized for the first time that law enforcement officers put their lives on the line daily.
