Dear Parole Board Members:

I ask that you DENY PAROLE to Leander Floyd Jr., TDCJ #00629797. This inmate's violent ambush murder of Police Officer Douglas Goeble, of the San Antonio Police Department, in 1991, should preclude any consideration for parole.

Police Officer Douglas Goeble was murdered by inmate #00629797 simply because he was a police officer. He was taking a meal break at a restaurant when inmate #00629797 walked up to him and fatally shot him twice in the back of the head without warning. Inmate #00629797 then shot his own girlfriend three times in front of her daughters, killing her instantly.

Police Officer Douglas Goeble was only 26 years old when he was slain. He was a dedicated law enforcement officer with the San Antonio Police Department for 18 months and previously served with the Balcones Heights Police Department and the Big Spring Police Department. Within the community, he was well-liked and respected. As a final act of service, he was kept on life support so his organs could be donated. Most importantly, he was a devoted father, son, and fiancé. Not only was he planning on getting married in July 1991, but his three-year-old daughter grew up without a father.

Violence against law enforcement officers is on the rise, and many officers have lost their lives to parolees. Inmate #00629797 had multiple misdemeanor convictions when he murdered his girlfriend after ambushing Officer Goeble. Should inmate #00629797 be released, he would pose a clear and present danger to all citizens and law enforcement officers in Texas. It is imperative that he be kept behind bars for the full term of his sentence.

Parole is a privilege and not a right. As a concerned citizen, and in the interest of public safety, I am asking that you DENY PAROLE to inmate #00629797. Justice demands that he be made to spend every day of his life in prison.
