Reflections for K9 Oya

Thank you for your service. Our thoughts and prayers are with your handler and agency through this difficult time.

Session 23
Zone 5 RLETA

October 14, 2025

Lord God of Unfailing Love, to those families of our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a Law Enforcement K-9 family member in the Line-of-Duty, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Father God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer! In Christ Jesus, and by His Authority, I pray. Amen.

[Jesus taught:] "Blessed are those who mourn - they will be comforted."

Rest in Peace K9 Oya. Your time here is done, and you have done well.
You have been called to Valhalla, a magnificent hall where Einherjar go
after their death in battle. You will feast and fight alongside Odin, Geri
and Freki, his trusted wolves against the force of chaos for the
preparation of Ragnarok. The end of the world. Thank you for you service
to your community, your state and your country.
You are gone, but will never be forgotten in spirit. Blessings to your human
family, friends, co-workers and all of the public safety family.
For some have forgotten that freedom is not free.

The blood of hero's never die "Dave Bray"

My eyes are your eyes, to watch and protect you and yours.
My ears are your ears, to hear and detect evil minds in the dark.
My nose is your nose, to scent the invader of your domain.
My life is also yours

Dear Chief John E. Buchannan and Members of the North County Police Cooperative,

We were deeply saddened to hear about the loss of K9 Oya, your loyal and brave canine partner. I can only imagine how difficult this time must be for K9 Oya’s handler, your fellow officers, and all who had the privilege of working alongside such a remarkable partner. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the passing of K9 Oya.

It is clear that K9 Oya was not only a highly skilled and dedicated member of your department but also a beloved companion and true community hero. The work that K9 Oya and the handler performed—from tracking dangerous suspects to detecting threats—was vital, courageous, and deeply appreciated.

The bond between a K9 and their handler is unique and profound, forged through trust, mutual respect, and daily dedication to a shared mission. Losing such a partner is not just a professional loss, but a deeply personal one, and our hearts go out especially to Oya’s handler during this difficult time.

K9 Oya’s legacy of service, bravery, and unwavering commitment to public safety has left a permanent mark on your department and the Suffolk community. The impact of that service will not be forgotten.

Please know that as you mourn, you are not alone. The broader law enforcement family and your community stands beside you, united in grief and gratitude. Having served in law enforcement for over 46 years and as part of a law enforcement family, I understand the sacrifices that come with this profession. If there is anything we can do to offer support or assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

May the memory of K9 Oya bring you comfort, and may K9 Oya’s legacy continue to inspire courage, service, and dedication in all who wear the badge.

With deepest sympathy,

Chief (retired) Don P. Jensen Sr. DrE, PGP, PP, PM

K9 Oya, Justice WILL come around! No one takes the life of an officer and "gets away" with it. The perps may have gotten away for a time, but the books will be balanced in the favor of righteousness. Meanwhile, the Lord has hung a star in the heavens in honor of you! Let your partner, family and department know that you are basking in the rest you have earned...your sacrifice has not been in vain-
