Hello Sir,

My name is Recruit Avila and I am currently a part of Class 415. This last week, our class had the honor of participating in the memorial run marking ten years since your passing. Today we met your mother and father. It was sobering.

Sir, I know that this is not the way you intended to leave an impression on the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and future generations. However, I would like you to know that even in your absence, you continue to have a profound presence and impact on all who knew or learn of the man you were.

As a class, your memorial run was a defining moment for us. That day we grew together in a way that only comes from legacies as your own. We held our heads a little higher, said our cadence a little louder, and pushed a little harder. I have no doubts that for some, that moment of running up your hill will be something that is carried with them throughout their entire career. I know that is the case for myself.

Deputy Piquette was someone who was highly looked upon during his career and even to this day we still remember him in the department and as a class. Talking about Deputy Piquette and showing how he is greatly appreciated by the whole department just shows the kind of family and support that LASD gives. Law enforcement is a very dangerous job. As a recruit in the LASD academy and as time goes by, i see that this career is not for everyone, it takes a very special person to do this job.
On June 30,2016 my class and i had the honor to participate in Deputy Piquette's 10 year memorial run. During the run we as a class felt full of pride and motivation because every single step we took that morning was in memory and to honor Deputy Piquette.
Deputy Piquette, I want to thank you for being an inspiration and a role model, not just for all of us in class 415 but for this whole department. I also want to thank everyone who made possible for class 415 to participate in Deputy Piquette's run....
