Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

There are two sayings, like trying to find a needle in the haystack and a stitch in time saves nine. Police officers don't have the time on their hands as some, they must act at the moment a problem or situation arises. They must search sometimes high and low for solutions to resolve certain issues. Your job, Officer Cook, as sophisticated and as complex as it might be was to get to the bottom and bring decency, honesty and integrity to the top. For six years you did that very well for the people living in Dade County. Their peace and safety was the total embodiment of your humility, a realization that most hard working public servants stay the courses of loyalty and class. Your legacy my neighbor, friend and hero is the kind of astute character, commitment and consideration needed to achieve which you did war against crime. Rest in peace. Surrounded by other angelic heroes and heroines of valor you can observe what is happening here as your soul travels from place to place in God's cerebral shelters. The doors and gates are finally open, it's time for those who have taken over your watch to get busy. One only earns respect by giving it and the efforts behind such actions. Lives were saved on May 16, 1979 and countless others by your noble actions, Officer Cook.

The actions of our most esteemed officers, their lives and roles led to consequences that have been viewed by others today as heroically loyal to the battles of evil. Officer Cook, your search and service for all Dade County has led to changes that have lasted for many years after you gave your life and career for a cause deemed so humane and yet some of us will never understand why your life was taken suddenly. Legacies do tell and recount the stories of our bravest servants who put back the word legitimate. That word was in your upbringing, Officer Cook and directed your journeys in and around a community where you have been so honored. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

What binds our society as one? Peace, unity, honor and dignity. What rips the spirits from our great land? Violence, terror, torment and tension. The headache of man is the very violence that shakes and threatens to disband our people. Police officers may bend a bit, they cannot become unglued at the seams. What drove you, Officer Cook, to a happy, hearty and healthy life and career was morals, the elocution of your voice, firm and humble. It's what made you a superior leader and a follower as well. Intuition, enhancement for Dade County residents that started with faithfulness and loyalty to your fellow officers. Once others saw your work patterns they became habit forming. But than again, patience is a virtue. Consistency is the patent formula for accomplishment. Character and courage are the meanings for missions to take shape and the effort creates the balance professionally for all to emulate. Dade County was in confident hands when you served and protected, Officer Cook. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your heroic legacy is in the hands of God who now watches one of his humane and angelic public servants who exhibited grace and nobility to all mankind.
