Reflections for Police Officer Bryan Scott Hurst
I still pray for you all the time!!!!!! I feel sad that
reflections are far inbetween, but know that there are some
of us that will never forget what you did and some of us that will always keep you in our hearts!

I moved to Columbus (from NY) just one year ago, and started to do business at the bank on East Broad Street where you were killed. The first time I went in, I saw your picture on the wall while waiting in line. When I got to the counter I asked the teller who you were and she told me the tragic story. Since then, whenever I go to the bank, I look toward your portrait and say a prayer for you, your dear family, and your fellow Officers. God grant you eternal peace. Thank you for your selfless service.

Just got orders for 3 weeks reserve duty at MCB Quantico Provost Marshals Office. I'm sure I'll run into some old JarHeads who served with you. I read on a reflection that Gunny Kartune was your former roomate. He was an instuctor for Marine Corps Det Lackland Tx when I went through Corrections School. Man the Corps is a small word. "Once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi devil dog!

Bryan,
Malia will be 3 next week. I can't believe it. She has grown so fast. I still picture in my mind the last time I saw you holding her. Your eyes just lit up as you picked her up out of my arms. Her eyes lite up just like yours. She is a beautiful little girl, but I know you know that and see it. I still think of you everyday and I will never stop thinking about you. Your life and sacrifice remind me I too need to leave a legecy. Thanks Bryan.

Hi Bryan
Thanks for taking care of your brothers and sisters during Red, White & Boom. I worry about them all of the time but on July 3rd and New Years Eve I worry even more. They seem to be the 2 worst nights of the year. As you already know, I quit 5/3 Bank and you know the reasons why. At first they were all about the support and then they just wanted it to go away. They want to pretend that it didn't happen. I wish that it didn't happen either but it did and there isn't anything that can change it. I could write about 10 pages about them, but I don't need to because you already know. Heather was right, everything that they said was a lie.
Anyway, you have a new job now. You need to take care of Gina and her family. Please keep Alexis safe and return her to the only home that she knows. I have to go for now but I'll write soon.
Love You Always

I celebrate you with every American flag I see proudly displayed. You represent what freedom, dignity, honor, respect, and loyalty are all about. I am certain you have seen all the bad PR the Canton police have received lately. I take the opportunity to thank each officer I know for protecting me and my community. Happy 4th of July, Bryan. You are never ever forgotten.
Love,

Happy 4th of July. I think I am going to try to go see the fireworks this year. It will be the first time since the robbery. I went one year and as soon as I heard teh fireworks start going off it was horrible. All, I could see was the bank in my eyes. I could not handle hearing all of the loud sounds. It made me think I was back in the bank. Hopefully tonight I will be able to enjoy the fireworks. Thanks Bryan and I will be thinking about when I see the fireworks. I am so lucky. Thanks=)

I remember reading about your passing 2 years ago and wondering how someone could do this. I now go to Ohio State and I transferred to work at a store that happens to be at East Broad Street and this morning we went to the bank and I learned that it was the bank where this tragedy occurred. My manager tells me it's a whole new staff there now since you've been gone, but your picture is proudly hung on the wall in uniform and there's a memorial on the doors. I hope to go into the Columbus academy soon, so hopefully all is well for you up there and keep a good look out for me down here!

The academy had their graduation today. While I was there I bought my 2007 Memorial shirt and thought of you as I do whenever I put on one of those shirts. We never met, but we have a lot in common. From one Steelers fan to another, RIP.

Happy Father's Day, Bryan! I know you look down from heaven and see how incredibly bright and beautiful Malia is. She has an amazing vocabulary and is quite a singer. She knows so many songs by memory and has quite a sense of humor. She has your skin...nice and tan already with bikini lines. Please know I cherish your memory when I look at your pictures in my office. Continue to watch over us. You are never forgotten, Bryan! Your badge number is proudly displayed on my car and on my office window.

Another fine Ohio officer taken down last week, Jason West, who was a neighbor of mine in Cleveland Heights. Like Bryan, Jason held 2 jobs, he was hardworking and went out of his way to be helpful to both his fellow officers and the people of the community he was hired to protect.
My God bless both Bryan and Jason and their famlies, I appreciate their contributions and dedication.

Thanks, Bryan. I hope that one day I can think of you and smile. Right now when I think about the situation I just cry. I want to smile knowing that someone I did not even know saved our lifes that day, but right now I just get so emotional. It's getting better with time but I have a long way to go. At work I have your badge from the funeral on my desk. When people ask me who you are or what it is, I respond by saying "His name is Bryan and he saved my life in a bank robbery, I keep him here at my desk as my guardian angel, he is my true American Hero. Happy Memorial Day..

FOR YOU ON MEMORIAL DAY
THANK YOU BRYAN
Thank you Bryan for your service to this country and the citizens of Columbus Ohio.
On 01/06/05 you paid the ultimate sacrifice. You gave your life so that 8 others could live. How do we ever repay you for that? I still have a hard time with this. Why was my life spared and not yours? You were so young and had so much to live for. I guess that you were so special that GOD wanted you sooner than others. He has a plan for you. I'm sure that the plan has something to do with welcoming all of the other marines and officers that walk thru the gates of heaven. There have been so many lately. On earth you did your job and you did it well. Now that you are in heaven do your job as well as you did it on earth. Stand beside my father and welcome all of the military and police officers that are there too soon. Explain to them why they are there and explain to them that someday their loved ones will understand.
Love You Always

Two of our Ohio brothers fell to the evilness this week. Let them know that their sacrifice is not in vain. Let them know that their bravery for brotherhood will be forever cherished. Happy Memorial Day brother, we all miss you.
Rest in peace brother, we'll get it from here.

To Marissa and the rest of Bryan's family,
I just read Marissa's reflection about people forgetting Bryan's sacrifice and our cruisers not having Bryan's ribbon on the cruisers anymore. Marissa I want to apologize for that and try to give an explanation. We have received a new batch of cruisers and Bryan's ribbon has been hard to find. With that said, I am contacting our FOP President Jim Gilbert about this. I am going to request that the FOP obtain more ribbons and put out a massive email requesting officers to place these ribbons on the new batch of cars. I do not want any of us to forget the sacrifice Bryan, Marissa, and their family gave on that day. I want all of us especially CPD not to forget our fallen brother. I/we will get the ribbons on the cars. I am so sorry. He has not and will not be forgotten.
In Christ,
Don
