Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jack B. Miller

I know you are not forgotten. We are still doing the same job you did. We hope you are proud of us..........

There isn't a day that goes by that Jack is not in my mind and heart...I dream of him often and hope he knows how many of us still think of him and to this day cannot believe he is not somewhere throwing a football. Our 10 year reunion pic still sits on the dresser as important as my husband's and kid's...Jack, you were so missed at the 20th and 30th and spoke of often. I can still hear you voice so clear telling your silly jokes, (the naughty ones you'd say your Uncle told you!). I miss you turning around in class to 'see' the answers. I miss our close friendship and personal talks to this day. You were truly my best male friend. I wish we could discuss old times and how we're getting older, how our kids have grown and what they are doing now (we haven't seen Donna or the girls since '89 but I can imagine they are beautiful and hopefully doing real well). My own son is even named after you. You were taken so unfairly from us and your family and I think of you and all the other fallen officers day to day, from 9/11 and sadly so many young soldiers in a war you wouldn't have liked.
But Jack, your spirit lives on, we visit your beautiful memorial in the Polygon at Poly and leave flowers. It's right by the apple machine Jack!

Your friend always

I miss you and I wish I had been older so I could've known you better. I'll always love you and there's still an emptiness in my heart because you were taken from me. Thank you to everyone that has written memories about my father.

Let it never be said that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has forgotten its own. Your name is on our wall and will always be in hearts.

Rest in peace.

Jack

Just found you on this site. I certainly enjoyed our LASD fishing trips in the Sierras, Mike Smith, Steve Moreno and the others. See you soon.

I was just remembering when a bunch of us who worked day shift at CJ in the late seventies. I also remember the great times we all had playing cards. The last time I saw Jack was a few weeks before my retirement from Malibu. He looked great, his spirit was high and he was happy to be working Narco. Take care Buddy, you are missed!

I was watching an episode of COPS yesterday and at the end they showed a picture of a handsome man smiling brightly. Beneath it were the words "Dedicated to the memory of Deputy Jack Miller." I decided to come to ODMP and see how Deputy Miller left this world. I am sorry to see that it was in such a voilent manner. Deputy Miller, thank you for laying down your life to serve the citizens of Los Angeles County. If I'm not mistaken Los Angeles County lost a deputy just a few months ago, too. Maybe the 2 of you are up in heaven swapping war stories and laughing over some hard-ass sergeant that you couldn't breathe right to please. I know you're in a better place...one not overrun by criminals looking for the opportunity to take one of our brothers in blue. One day I'll see you there...until then, take care and Rest in Peace.
