Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything. He has given us-and he has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a gift of grace. God shines His everlasting grace on your soul, Officer Cook, making it as big as a hot sun. When troubles seem to weigh us down, we should contemplate all the good you did in this world and how you made this land a better place for those to live and to love. Your company is truly missed by all and we know we'll meet up someday soon. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. And patience produces character and character produces hope. And this hope will never disappoint us, because God has poured out His love to fill our hearts. He gave us His love through the His Holy Spirit and this is what we rely on daily. The results you garnered from your job, Officer Cook, were based on the above criteria. It is the only way you could have survived and maintained optimism in getting the job done right and properly as so far as honor, dignity and integrity were a large portion of how a police officer conducts their daily affairs. You can never be sure how an ending will be, but if you approach a problem with optimism rather than skepticism, I would say nine times out of ten, the results will be positive. I'll always admire the way you were raised and how you befriended people on and off the job, as well as how you maintained yourself professionally. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. No one can ever promise a bed of roses, sometimes the thorns can prick you, it's how you pick up yourself and move on the next challenge.

Nothing can separate you from His love, absolutely nothing....God is enough for time and God is enough for eternity. God is enough! Your life Officer Cook was one that was well lived, well traveled and a life that was appreciated by the many who paid tribute to you at your Inspector's Funeral. Was it enough? No, but the years of one's life are more crucial and critical as to how they used their time. Was it used wisely? Yes in your life. How were they spent with your loved and spouse? Well spent and utilized for as much positive situations as most are. You deserved as do all officers who give their lives, a better fate. We know God has certainly assembled a top notch, "Thin Blue Line" of true heroes and heroines such as yourself, Officer Cook to help Him maintain law and order down here on earth. Your comrades are counting on your heroism and eternal loving care to see them through the rough patches that they experience. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Can anything ever separate us from God's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?.... No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through God, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither fears for today nor worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from god's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in us as God's children. Nothing can separate your soul from us, Officer Cook, over all the victories you gained in attempting to serve and protect us from harm. Your courage ranks right up in the stratosphere and you'll always be considered "Our True Blue Hero." Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Nothing can torment us as long as you Officer William C. Cook, Badge#1664 watch over us forever.

God loves us for ourselves. He values our love more than He values galaxies of newly created worlds. God orders the constellations in their order in the skies and Officer Cook, you are now part of His celestial galaxy. Your father Charles, may he rest in peace as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero are probably having many good discourses about everything from sports, to the weather, to your family.

To lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands Because you listened and obeyed God's words, Officer Cook, you are now being rewarded for giving of yourself and displaying characteristics that mere mortals do not display too often. You expose yourselves to evil each day and we never know what the day brings until you can arrive home safe and sound at the end of your shift. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God already loves us as much as an infinite God can possibly love. God loved you Officer Cook will all His special qualities, the ones he passed on down to you and now you pass on to us from the heavens above. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Everything which relates to God is infinite. We must therefore, while we keep our hearts humble, keep our aims high. Our highest services are indeed but finite, imperfect. But as God is unlimited in goodness, He should have our unlimited love. You gave God your unlimited love Officer Cook, right until your last breath. This is the least we can do and you would expect from us to aim high and focus closely on our goals, dreams and aspirations. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. God is the source of everything we do in life.

With God our trust can be abandoned, utterly free. In Him are no limitations, no flaws, no weaknesses. His judgment is perfect. His knowledge of us is perfect. His love is perfect. God alone is trustworthy. And this is why families of men and women such as yourself, Officer Cook, my neighbor, friend and hero are resting in peace as you all have a very unique assignment and that is to protect the streets from above as you welcome other officers up to the "Thin Blue Line." Your heroics are forever going to be earmarked for us to see and observe how you properly kept law and order with honor, dignity, integrity and clarity.

There is no limit to God's love. It is without measure and its depth cannot be sounded. One day the horns will finally sound signaling the day of redemption when we finally see you, Officer Cook and realize what we had been missing all these years. The gentle bonds you forged with your community will be untied and we can all run up to you and give you a big loving hug. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Of course, I look forward to hugging my parents again.

Before anything else, above all else, beyond everything else, God loves us. God loves us extravagantly, ridiculously, without limit or condition. God is in love with us. God yearns for us. We yearn to see your smiling face Officer Cook. The face that made others ooze with excitement and break out in laughter when conversing with you. This is missed by your loved ones and friends who loved you and stood toe to toe with you in the fields of battle, while you were serving and protecting our treasured community. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God's peace is joy resting. His joy is peace dancing. Officer Cook, as you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, keep spreading the joy, happiness and laughter down on us. The world would be happier if you were here to literally do this, but we know one day we will meet again.

When people's lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them. The life you lived, Officer Cook, was one of dignity and triumph. You learned to make peace with good and not so good people. It's a shame the young man who took your life, couldn't have been helped sooner. You will always be honored as heroic and brave all the days of your life and as your legacy will go down as one of Metro-Dades finest officers. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing. There is not any such thing as one not at peace and yet you are not experiencing joy. The two traits, Officer Cook which you maintained are exclusive of one another. You performed your duties in such a manner, because aside from your arduous training, it was the only way you knew how to perform and achieve a level of success. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Karen and yourself worked long and hard to maintain a home of happiness and peace and after losing you at such a young age doing what you loved doing, it was very taxing and very emotional for her and to finally after about thirty years to remarry, that had to be most difficult. I saw that after my father passed away, what was happening to my mother my she rest in peace too. But, your always be noted and never forgotten by me, my neighbor, friend and hero. Rest in peace. I wish I could keep in touch with Karen, I've kept in touch with families of loved ones who I officiated at their services. She would love to converse with me, as I can sympathize with her loss, as a police officer's son.

Peace is not placidity; peace is the power to endure the megatron of pain with joy, the silent thunder of release, the ordering of Love. Peace is the atom's start, the primal image: God within the beast. While on duty Officer Cook, there were times when you had to employ peaceful tactics to bring about a resolution to a problem. The home you and your sister, Nancy were raised was one of love and peace, so I can see why you were the man and officer who could relate to most any person. You truly deserve the accolades that come your way today. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Love comes while we rest against our Father's chest. Joy comes when we catch the rhythms of His heart. Peace comes when we live in harmony with those rhythms. You are forever resting in peace, Officer Cook, my neighbor, friend and hero by God's chest and all of your fellow officers are being clutched by Him like teddy bears, for all the gentleness and easy going manners you displayed while on duty. Your love will always shine down on your family and friends who adored you and took pride in working by your side.

Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love..., be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. Officer Cook, you are and will forever be in all our blessings for the good which you provided us with. All of you and your colleagues are resting in peace my neighbor, friend and hero in perfect harmony. There were words to this affect relating to Coca Cola or Pepsi Cola years ago. My your memory be remembered for a blessing.

God's pantry never runs low. His wells never run dry. I doubt your parents shelves were bare, there were always cookies and milk for you and Nancy. Karen and yourself, Officer Cook, always made sure there was enough to satisfy your guests. A very happy and hospitable person you were and will forever be remembered. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Come and sit and ask Him whatever is on your heart. No question is too small, no riddle too simple. He has all the time in the world. You gave your time to poignantly Officer Cook. You were right with us in thick and thin, in times of happiness or sadness. Now that the Catholic Church will soon be electing a new Pontiff to lead, let us hope and pray as you were the ever faithful servant that peace and unity will abound for the entire universe. All religions and nationalities must form one rainbow and band together to bring peace and healing to all. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The overflowing life does not just happen. It is only as our own deep thirst is quenched, only as we are filled ourselves, that we can be channels through which His overflow reaches other lives. Your goodness and compassion Officer Cook, has reached numerous lives, it will always stay regular and have a taste of a land flowing from milk and honey. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The heart is rich when it is content, and it is always content when its desires are fixed on god. Nothing can bring greater happiness than doing God's will for the love of God. And this was your motto and Karen's, Officer Cook. It starts everyday when we awaken, after God has taken our souls to heaven and judges them and then returns them to us for us to start a new day. Your love of God was in your saving the lives of your fellow officers and the two civilians on May 16, 1979. The police department was your extended family and to this day you thought of very highly. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
