Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Phillip E. Panzarella

I'm sitting and watching the old Kojack series, and Kojack made me reflect on a real NYPD Lieutenant, Philip "Sundance" Panzarella, I'm glad I found this website and wanted to pay my respects to a great professional and personable person. In the 1990's, I had the honor of having Panzarella as the commanding officer for his brief time in the Queens Robbery Squad (QRS). Panzarella loved the men and women of the QRS because we were good at apprehending the bad guys. While as CO of the Queens Homicide Squad, Panzarella depended on the QRS to be out in the street until the suspects were apprehended. In most major homicide investigation, Panzarella called on QRS to be the strong arm in gathering intelligence for a quick apprehension. I can recall how Panzarella always carried a pad and police radio, while smoking his stoagie...Panzarella was my godfather while on the job, I recalled during a promotion ceremony for LDS William Nevins, Panzarella came up to me and Rocky Verma, "You got First." Panzarella loved active and loyal detectives who produced results. I only had 12 years in grade and Verma had less than 10 years in grade, but because Panzarella 's close friend, Chief Louis Anemone, knew of us as well, we were fortunate to be promoted to the prestigious rank of Detective First Grade, thank you Lt. for giving me the privilege of working with you and my admiration of watching a police legend conduct investigations. You will always be remembered...the job is "The Greatest Show on Earth with Front Row Seats"

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation’s brave law enforcement officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the law enforcement officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]
